I'm heading down there this Saturday. Any locals have any tips for a grom from NJ? What kinda suits y'all wearing down there?
If the pier is too crowded, head south to first or second light. Here, Surfline can help ya out http://www.surfline.com/travel/surfmaps/surfspot.cfm?id=49
Picnic Tables is north of the officers club at PAFB, (look for the picinic tables, Yogi and Boo Boo). It's consistent, not as crowded as 2nd light. Avoid the stretch of beach between 11th and 16th Street South (cocoa beach), there is a windowless white van that trolls for NJ groms. Beware! Personally, I'd wear a 4/3 with booties, I'm sure you'll be toasty in a 3/2. http://www.surfline.com/surfdata/report_breakdata.cfm?id=5356&sef=true
2/1....damn ya bunch of wimps. Water is fine, wind can be cold. Sand bottom beach break to about 24th Street. Coquina rock bottom south of that. Don't run into the ocean, your chit will get thrown back on the beach..... Lots of SUPrs at the south end of Picnic Tables. 1st light is really 2nd light. You can figure it out from there. Low going to High is best all down the coast. Don't stay on an AF beach after dark with Chit in your car. The G men are watching. Don't even think about bringin' that NJ snake crap down here, we bite back. The difference between a Fla Surfer and a Fla redneck is about 2 seconds...........Bring a fishing pole......
I like that part of fla from pat's to sebass the devlopment is mellow by florida standards and lots of spots ......also have ft pierce little further south
Ok so I called Ron Jon and Cocoa Beach Surf looking for rentals of boards that aren't total beginner boards. They both seem to have some selection of boards under 6' Do any y'all southern gents/ladies have any other rental recommendations??
Well, if you want a true surf shop Rob Job's and Kooko Beach Surf company are not the place to start.....Try: Core Surf https://www.coresurfonline.com/contact/ Quiet Flight http://quietflightsurfboards.com/ Neilson Surf http://www.tomneilsonshapes.com/ Ocean Sports http://oceansportsworld.com/ My travel go-to is pawn shops. Talk to the manager/owner and tell him you want to buy a borte and then sell it back after X days/weeks. Some time you can get a good borte for 150 and sell it back for 100. 50 bucks for 7 days is not bad for a deceit borte.
Quiet Flight has some nice short fat slugs from time to time. Used (cheap) or rentals. And a great selection of new hybrids, really sweet. Good for some performance in the typically mushy soft waves there.
Spoke to Dennis at Core. Seems to have what i'm looking for for rent, plus he's right down the road from where i'll be staying. Cocoa Beach and Ron Jon had less if any "experienced surfer" type boards.
