Why surfers are so liberal

Are they liberal? i always considered them conservative.

It think it might go along with the "live and let live"... "free spirit" lifestyle and attitude.

Originally, all surfers were outsiders... non-conformists with f'd up priorities. Now we're all... non-conformists with f'd up priorities. Wait... what?

 

If you don't vote Democrat in your 20's You don't have a heart. If you don't vote Republican in your 30's you don't have a brain.

The Answer is simple, surfers want free stuff. Have you ever seen how pro surfing works? People give them free stuff all the time. They really think that's how life works. They start you off young with store discounts and free accessorys. And once you are no good to your sponsors they drop you like a turd. Just like communism!

 

I agree with you. I have always thought that if you took a cross section of surfers, vs a bunch of other outdoor sports, surfers trend more libertarian / independent which to me is well away from the liberal end of the spectrum of political views.

Surfers have chosen a sport that doesn't require a team or being part of an organization

Instead of wanting the gov to build parks, tracks or courts for our sport, we generally just want surf-ruining projects to go away. Let nature take it's course.

Surfers want city codes, regulations and authorities to stop telling us where we can or cannot enjoy surfing...

Surfing is a sport that generally self-regulates and has very few rules expect those that we impose on ourselves out of righteousness with no government authority to do.

I basically see these as more conservative values.

 

Unfortunately it's usually municipal taxpayers that fund the development of sports arenas. The owners then get to charge the public for use of the facilities they paid for. And if this double-screwed population doesn't adequately show their obeisance by filling the seats (in the NFL at least), the locals then face a broadcast blackout as punishment.

They are trying to destroy the family by giving women money to keep the father out of the house. There are dozens of programs and laws that promote this.

My life and opinions are far too complex to stick to a party, especially in 2018 where you have to love one side and hate the other. I'm firmly and proudly an independent surfer.

not all id say last year round lunchtime I saw a dude pull up in a shiny new pickup hurriedly grabbed his board rushed out to water,,appearantly sneaking off at lunchtime from his yuppie job..and he had a trump sticker so...
