https://weather.com/science/nature/news/2018-03-08-north-carolina-shelly-island-gone Leave it to wind and sea to perpetuate the seasons of change. This temporary shoal was a unique experience. I wonder if it will come back. Albeit a novelty set up it was a cool and adventurous one.
I am curious as to why anyone would even think to give that temporary minuscule sand bar a name? Oh wait, yes I do....but I won't say why; tired of repeating it.
Hiked out to the island last fall at low tide during a trip to Hatteras. It was a huge amount of sand at the time - guessing it rose about 10 ft + above the low tide level. The amount of shells out there was unreal. Some of the larger conch shells had small octopus hiding in them. Found a few like that. It's amazing to see that its gone.
I think i know where you were going with that one! Does it begin with the letter M? End in N? Two Os in between with an R thrown in?
Sorry you didn't get the chance to take Miss Cuda for a walk down there before it vanished...I bet she would have enjoyed it. Maybe it will return one day and you will get the chance.
And an entire Hooverville of clowns who had taken up residence on the island was lost with the receding sand, oh the HU-Manatees.
The beach near my house is gone, I mean like gone, just rocks and seawall now, even at dead low. Amazing how much sand these storms can transport.
Are the waves breaking better or worse? Your opinion? (I have been ill last few days, so I have not gotten down to see it)
It's mush burger heaven, though was big enough this morning for some nice long walls. Gonna take some time to recover. Hope you feel better.
Surfline is run by a bunch of mentally derranged incompetents, so I wouldn't put too much faith in them.
im glad i got to score it at least one day down there. got it 6-8ft++ and peeling. still the longest wave i have gotten to date. its a shame it was gone. the trip out to it was half of the thrill.
