You leave your glove cuffs outside of your wetsuit sleeve? Doesn't water get inside the glove? I have always pulled my wetsuit sleeve down over my glove cuffs but it's crazy hard to get a good seal on the second glove when you already have a 7 mm mitten on the other hand. I always just assumed this was necessary for warmth / leakage...

Me as well. If your having trouble getting a good seal, try the plastic bag trick with gloves going on first.

Like i mentioned, with my newer suits i don't haves issue getting a good seal with gloves on last. First glove is easy. I give the sleeve a double roll up. Right glove on. Bare left hand pulls sleeve back down. Let glove goes on. Then i actually use a pen (the back end not the point on a non click pen) to get under the roll on the left sleeve to help get it back over the glove.

DosXX is right about it being a science. Part of me feels ashamed we are even having this discussion haha. But then i look back to wheni first started surfing winters. Use to be such a to do. Now it's a breeze and i don't even think twice about it. You find that routine that works for you but it takes some trial and error. That pen trick was a game changer for me.

No, I do tuck in the gloves! Geeze, I don't know what's the matter with me lately. Hopefully Mom's dementia isn't contagious...not yet anyway. Been out of the water too long this winter and just getting old, I guess.
But I do put them on last and generally have no trouble rolling back the sleeves (newer suit) to do so.
I'll say no more on this matter and hopefully avoid making a bigger fool of myself...

haha ok that makes way more sense. I thought I was missing some secret trick. Yeah, I fold the wetsuit sleeves back first then flip them forward and over the glove cuff. I actually keep an old plastic spatula in the car and use the handle end to help get a hold under the second sleeve. it works, but still a struggle.

No tub, no tools. Old school style sub zero and feet on the parking lot pavement. Earn your score.

Well i roll up suit sleeves and pull gloves up as tight as i can and then roll suit sleeve down over glove,im sure most do the same, gloves worn over your suit can fill up in a tumble and come off, loose a few gloves and you wont wear them like that,, i dont always use socks under my booties but they go on a lot faster if not zippered boots i use mainly 5mm and 7mm booties ,lot of booties with zippers have the inner flap fold as high as boot but some dont they seem to be ones that have leaked ,ive tried just about every suit maker over the years but gloves are a pain in the ass to get on no matter who makes them

Hell yeah. Been there done that.

Sure i could and have stood bare foot and in nothing but boxer briefs in a foot of snow in sub zero temps to change. But why? Stand in the tub and rip that suit off. Throw on my big ass wool lined pancho changing robe. I don't care. I don't got anything to prove. You can work smarter or harder. And working harder don't prove squat

The most important step is to start your car immediately after getting out of the water. This way the car will be warm by the time you get out of the wet suit. cheers

Honestly I've been wearing my gloves over my sleeves the last 3-4 winters. Between the drylock wrist cuffs on my sleeves and the drylock seals on my gloves, I've never had an issue with water getting in. Pre-Double-Drylock I used to go sleeve over glove though.

I do need to try out the wool socks though. With my 5/4 drylock and 7mm drylock gloves I've still been getting iced feet after an hour despite having brand new 7mm drylock boots. Everything else feels fine, but my circulation is also garbage. This is sub 40 degree New England water.

Sheesh, sounds like an xcel commercial. Maybe not for their boots...

This is French for "my wiener".

Do you buy your booties in threes?

I remember when I started bodyboarding in the winter, my feet would cramp up immediately wearing Churchill or Duck Feet over 3 mil boots. I had to get the Shaquille O'Neill sized fins which totally effed up my game

The glove-over-sleeve thing is mind-blowing to me. I may give that a try.

Re: the foot freeze - I've never used wool socks, but I bought a pair of 1 mm Wetsox a few months ago and I'm generally pretty happy with them. Very easy on and off, and there is a noticeable difference in warmth (although I was using them with older boots...have not needed them since getting new 7 mm...).

In New England waters, if you do not tuck your gloves inside the sleeve, you hands freeze. Period. No exceptions. The water temps are presently high 30s. 'nuff said...

This conversation is the equivalent of how many blondes does it take to screw in a lightbulb. I never knew there was so much to know about putting on a wettie. I always just did it without bags, socks, rubbers or petroleum jelly. Foolish me!
