Only use surfline to look at forecasts for an upcoming trip out of the country. Use a bunk email address and an old visa gift card and sign up for 2 free weeks right before I leave and cancel. Aside from that, never visit the site.
I don't need Windy here in NH--it is ALWAYS blowing hard from the NorthEast....always. If it changes, I lick my finger then hold it up to see which side gets frozen first......that's my windy.com
I get lost in their travel section sometimes and have used for travel along the way. In general Surfline has decent content from time to time. Also, report tells you which wetsuite to use which is critical...
True...I cannot make up my mind sometimes whether to wear the magenta colored one, or the fuscia colored one. Fashion is sooooo confusing; it really puts frost on my pumpkin at times.....
Value-added would be if SL also suggested bootie, glove and hoodie colors for the wetsuit of the day.
I complained about this a while ago. They changed it sometime last year. It's probably been about a year now. It's much harder to use, much harder to navigate and it's supposed to be an upgrade? I hate when things upgrade, only for what they upgrade to actually become a downgrade. And they call it beta, too. Beta is another word for weak. I haven't tried the app yet. Most of the cams either don't load up on my phone or just only stream for 5-10 seconds, when they used to stream for 30 seconds.
I'm going to miss the "local photos" section off to the right, on the main landing page for surfline. Occasionally there's a bit of scantily clad... Luckily still on the original for now
I reached out to their customer support looking for the Nearshore Wave Models. They responded saying that they're still in the process of migrating some of the charts. This was a while ago! Still no Nearshore Wave Models to be seen. Seems like the only thing SL is now useful for is gazing at guidos from the 16th ave. cam.
I think there should be an initiative to visit all other websites that have cams/forecasts and put those corporate ass clowns out of business. The fact that they made their latest catastrophe of a website map based, is as ruthless as it gets for many communities that pride their local peaceful beach towns. Sure it's 2018. There are webcams. But you don't have to tell the world, where exactly the webcams are. Surflie is absolutely hated by Southern Californian surfers. Hated. They have filled every little wave that breaks with a cam and there are hundreds of people for every 30 waves that roll through each spot. Their new obvious business mission is to come to the East Coast, set up cameras every 5 blocks and "take over" a new market so that people and businesses are forced to work with them. . The Surf industry advertisers hate them as well, but are forced to work with them. In Huntington beach, they have 14 cameras. all pointing at the HB pier. just so no other websites can place a camera. Isn't that a monopoly? Malibu. 6 out of 8 locations with a view, they have a camera. What do you know? Spending all that subscription money on sealing the deal for a lifetime of ruining surfing for everyone. Support any other website, but Surfline.
So move. Seriously... how can you stand it? I'd GTFO... 'cause boycotting Surfline isn't gonna do squat for your day-to-day peace of mind and surfing life. You're only fueling your own frustration and hatevibe. Waves break all over the world.
Dude, my roommate was telling me about that this morning. I went grocery shopping and he slept in, then looked up the cams on Surfline, even though there's only a couple close to here. He told me how hard it was to navigate the site and how it's map based now, like you were saying. My biggest pet peeve with using the internet is when sites claim to upgrade and it's really a downgrade, that's what I feel Surfline did with this new format. It was much easier to go through when you click on California and went to either Northern California, LA, Orange, etc, or whatever it was. Or when you went to North America, then Mid-Atlantic, then New Jersey, then wherever in the state. In Jersey I use TheSurfersView, I've been using that for years now. A lot of the cams aren't exactly at standout spots or even real breaks, but just watching them will give me a good idea if an area is working or worth heading out to or not. TheSurfersView also has a wide selection of pretty nice cams, they've added A LOT in the 10 years or so that I've been using it. They even have some from California and Hawaii, a few international cams from Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Brazil. As well as Florida and New York. Some cams are just fun to watch when I'm sitting around on my tablet. The cams don't work that great on a mobile device, though.
Just as bad, or worse, than all the cams are the way people blab about spots and then saying something like, "All spots are known" or "yeah, but go so spot xxxyz, it isn't crowded there like around the corner." Well, ya know what? It is crowded as hell now.
Agree; however there is a flip side. All the lazy DBs go to the spots with cams leaving all the other spots fairly uncrowded. There are multiple cams in ocmd (from different sites) and you wont see me on any of them!
