Ok I admit I've heard the base thump on a few occasions, usually on the hollowest days. I just had to jump in on the fun. There's a Pemex refinery in Baja Norte I used to surf. It's got a big breakwater with a jetty on the end. Went there during a huge South and you could fit 3 VW Vans in the tubes in front of the breakwater. They would make this huge thud as the lip would make contact with the flats, then it sounded like a dynamite demolition going off. Biggest scariest day of my life
Serious answer....that could be limited to the break you are going to. Maybe it happens only at that ONE spot as the swell encounters a steep bottom or similar??
boy dis tread needs a wall built around.... theres a member here who always chimes in with highly intellectual jargon...cant remember his name.. I was thinking as a decent swell starts to encounter a rapidly shallow bank the bottom force slams into the bank/beach which causes the sound and also the wave to break....I dunno I know I hear it on bigger days when they hit..sounds like a small bomb almost
It really sucks when you've just duck dived what you thought was the last wave of the set only to hear it right as you thought you just popped out the back. You know you are about to be toast.
"highly intellectual jargon" on this forum? You really did forget to take your medication this morning.
