well im done with spraypainting my board now. And i want to use paint pens on another. I know theres been threads about it but they dont really clearly answer my questions. Well here they are. 1: is it a good idea to put it on the deck of your board, and can you wax over it? 2: When your done paint penning, can you put clear coat on it to prevent it from coming off, or will it drip off like marker? 3: What ones are the best to buy(brand etc..) i only need a couple black..... If you guys can answer the questions thatd be awesome. Oh and where can you get them (i guess arts and craft store right?)
I don't think it really matters what brand paint pen you buy. If you were to paint pen your board, I'd do it on the deck of your board because if you do it on the bottom of your board it'll slow you down. I use clear coat on mine when I draw something on my board. If you want to take something off just go out and buy acetone.
The standard pens to use are the posca paint pens, and i have also used Zig paint pens with good results. I have also heard of people using the sharpie paint pens, although i have no experience with them. You should be able to find them at an arts and crafts store like Micheals or a paint supply store like Pearl. After you use them, spray over it with a few light coats of clear, then buff that down with 1500 grit sandpaper. waxing over top of that will just help protect it even more, so not a problem there.
Posca Pens and waterbased Sharpie paint pens are the standard. Both available at Greenlight Surf Supply. I do artwork on the lam and hotcoat over it. Spraying clearcoat is an extra step that isn't necessary in my opinion. Here's a pic of some Sharpie paint pen action.. ~Brian www.greenlightsurfsupply.com
