Honestly dude, even if any of those tubes were happening in some tropical warm water spot, they'd all still be classified as "heavy". Jelly here. Don't be such a fucking stranger, hear?
Many of the MD folk (including me) do both as we got blackball all summer. I absolutely look forward to getting barrelled in the summer shorebreak. We do a staycation every year in which my day consists of: wake up, surf TBTSNBN in morning (or fish if flat) then spend all day on beach with wife mixing in multiple bodybooarding/bodysurfing sessions, eat dinner at restaurant, drink several beers, bang wife, sleep then repeat next day. No BS - one of my favorite weeks of the year.
i used to surf in the morning and evening then sponge during the day way back and kinda want to get back to that.
Long paddles out it's easier with a surfboard, surfboards cut through long paddles out with less drag. Beach breaks like home above fins give you pretty good sprints on getting out and into waves.
i can tell u as an eye witness lol, YES!!! in reality it really comes down to skill and timing.but i remember a day in the winter, think it was 07-09 year, there was a huge noreaster. where i surf, theres a rockwall.then u got a decent stretch of sand, then the sea.on this day the whitewater was smashing up against the rockwall.it was one of those days where a surfer will go out,get destroyed for 10 minutes straight and end up coming back in cause they cant make it out.nothing but rejection.i didnt even surf that day, just spectated. 1 old sponger came, walked past the peanut gallery and just goes straight out,and this mf was outside in like 15-20 seconds tops.it was amazing.i asked the ppl how the fuk did he do that, was it the rip,was it skill idk, combination of both i guess. he was the only one that went out.i have respect
thinking about it,i actually caught the ride on an old digital camera. forgot to mention,20 second paddle out,and maybe 15 seconds later catches a legit 12' bomb that just dumped.i got to try to find the memory card
i dont really hate on any other wave riding transportations.when im out there,im doing my own thing.u do you,i do me,its not a team effort.common courtesy goes a long way and etiquette but ppl lack common sense.as long as u stay out my way and dont try to spear me with a foreign object i have no problemas
Yeah man. Ask SUP jokes aside, if you show respect and follow etiquette, i got no problems. It's cool to see a skillful SUP.... or any craft. Skill is skill and that's cool. Problem is alot of people on SUPs havnt spent the time in the water and don't follow etiquette and are kooks. Atleast that's the trend iv noticed. Those pictures Cwhite posted are crazy. Good stuff man
Ask Evan Gesielman if he respects boogs, one saved his Life a few years back. If you are out surfing real waves ( definitely not the 2-4 foot stuff we get on the East Coast) no one cares if you are riding a boog, shortboard, long board or sup. I feel like anyone who talks shit on boogers hasn't done their time traveling or surfed many waves of consequence. Here is the boog (Andre Botha) who saved Evan: Hard to talk shit about a guy charging this hard.
People choose to ride different things, for whatever reason. Even though I think to myself, "great... here comes the SUP crew" every time I see them, I will say I've had SUP guys actually trying to spot waves for me and call me into them. Boogers... on the other hand... are useless to me. Lol. Now, I'm not hating on boogers... I know they love setting a line and getting shacked as much as anyone. And I've played around with them just for fun, too. But as I said before... I'd rather be bodysurfing. I guess it's not the paddle or the fins that makes you a kook... it's what they're attached to.
I surf and bodyboard: Paddling out on a surfboard is waayyy faster. However, on bigger hollow days paddling out on a bodyboard is easier, at least for me. I can duck dive waayyy deeper on a bodyboard than I can on a surfboard. Ive seen plenty of guys who I know goof around on a bodyboard, that are average to above average surfers. Its pretty comical to watch. Its not as easy as you would think to keep a rail engaged on a bodyboard when doing a bottom turn or pulling into a tube. Your actually supposed to use your legs more and a lot of guys don’t realize that. Whatever though, like I said I still do both and have a blast....
It's fun to poke the bear when a guy like Sharthunter comes in here and blasts surfers when you know that guy is probably not charging. Then there was that kitesurfer guy that was blasting surfers about a year or 2 ago, what a total fkn kook
