Whether it’s $350, $500, or $800, as long as you have a boart that you are happy with, and it is durable, and you take good care of it, you will get your money’s worth if you surf enough. It’s an investment.

Some boarts are still being ridden many years after purchase because pride of ownership keeps them around. Think about all the money we blow on lesser things!

Let’s not be too cheap and run all the good shapers out of the business only to leave the pop out companies to work with.

I think you're projecting a bit on the feelings thing. I'm sitting here at work getting paid to sip a cup of coffee and talk shit about surfboards.

Let's get a baseline. What board are you looking at that is $700?

Foam prices went up after Clark burned his recipes and destroyed his molds. There's competition, but no foam company is going to go back to Clark pricing.

Let's be honest, if you're sitting behind a desk doing this at work, they're not paying you to blog on surfing (unless you're at a surf shop). So, you're basically stealing from your company. Time, electricity, and coffee.

Agreed. Any board builder with a truly sponsored (paid) team rider.

This is a stupid thread. If you don't like the price of something go find it somewhere else cheaper. In a competitive open market, if the product or service can be provided at a lower price then the market will find a way to do so unless a monopoly exists in that market (there is not in this case). If you think it is so easy to make a wave surf riding board for $150 and sell it for $700 then maybe you should go into the wave surf riding board making business yourself.

Did this thread just become about me? I'm honored.

No, not stealing. My boss is cool with whatever I do at work because I make him a shit load of money. He also pays me enough that I can buy whatever board I want without going and crying to the internet about the price. Thanks for caring about my life.

What I am saying is that no short board should cost $700. And even more frustrating is that Asian produced boards carrying big labels like JS, DHD, Sparrow, _insert name here_ should definately not cost us $700.

Personally, I wish surfboards of all sizes would START at a $1,500 price point. There would be a lot less morons in the water, and a lot of good shapers to choose from.
So, shapers, please raise your prices NOW!!!!! Double them!!

^not true, it's easy to sell boards to beginners, tourists, and people who don't know what boards are really worth

Business 101- The higher the product is priced, the smaller the market.
So if doubling price doesn't do it, then quadruple it!! Less surfers, and shapers rise to craftsman level.
