Swellinfo Redesign

Ok. Nice. I actually like the way this works now, as the data below displays the last timeline selected (and you do not need to continue to hold your finger on the graph). Also, in the previous implementation, sometimes the "tooltip" display of the data would sometimes show (i.e., render) outside the display area of the device.

The forecast page is awful. It takes up three to four times as much page space to display the same info as before. I thought part of the purpose of the redesign was to improve mobile but it is even worse than ever on my iPhone 12x (not to mention my iWatch 14!). It's great if you like to scroll both up & down and sideways.

I guess change for the sake of change is the way things are. I think it would have been better to use resources to improve the forecasts themselves. SI consistently over-calls my area. I know it's difficult with our narrow swell window but friggin' MSW gets it right much more often.

 

Exactly. When I first started my business I was always thinking of new ways to change things up. It never helped and only hurt my business. Took a decade for me to figure that out, lol. This looks terrible, not user friendly. To be able to see every thing at a glance is the way it should be, this is really awkward

 

The ironic thing is I'm on older technology (Laptop with Windows 7) and the new format looks great and works great.

 

the pressure/wind/precip map is cool. Is that new....don't remember seeing it.

I guess I always used the swell and the wind...did not remember seeing the pressure map...which is helpful. Also, on the swell graph on forecast page, can you show the buoy that the data is being pulled from? And, it seems like similar technology that surfline uses for theirs. I just crossed reference swell data for Nags Head on both sites and the readings are different (I presume settings for data maybe from different buoys but it illustrates the ENE swell showing up later on swell info...11am tomorrow vs 9pm this eve for surfline). Albeit a .6'@ 10, they are being picked up/predicted and different times.

I have seen this even with previous design. It just seems odd that both sites would be using a separate buoy for the same locale...

ok I'm getting the hang of it. I could get used to this, not bad at all. In fact, maybe even pretty good lol.

I usually access this site on my tablet and I found out that if I turn the tablet lengthwise instead of upright, I get the full effects of the charts and graphs.

What originally pissed me off was the color chart says "scroll" and when I drag my finger to scroll, no dice. I actually have to "tap" the chart to see the timeline. Okay.

 

Yeah my initial reaction when I was checking the test site was meh, but a 2nd and 3rd look felt better. It’s just getting use to a different look and feel is what it comes down to, but all of the data is the same, just displayed differently.

Looks like it does show which buoy on report tab but not forecast tab....

 

With regards to the the surf graph, Sure would be helpful if the swell direction was in degrees instead of just south or south east etc. Couple of degrees either way on an east swell for example could make or break a spot. Other sites have that data. Would keep users on this site and not checking out bouys or your competitors sites.

 

I’m getting used to it now. Not bad.

 

Is it still updating the forecast on the 6s and 12s?
