    Pretty bizarre....potential tropical system developing in the North Atlantic at 39 N. - roughly the same latitude as New Jersey. Movement is back toward the SW.

    Tropical Weather Outlook
    NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
    800 PM EDT Sat Aug 4 2018

    For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

    Shower activity associated with a non-tropical low pressure system
    centered about 950 miles west-southwest of the Azores remains
    limited. However, the low could gradually acquire subtropical or
    tropical characteristics while it moves southwestward over the next
    day or two, and then lifts back to the northeast and remains over
    warm water through Tuesday. Additional information on this low
    pressure area can be found in High Seas Forecasts issued by the
    National Weather Service.
    * Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent.
    * Formation chance through 5 days...low...30 percent.

    Hopefully it will just kind of stall out there, parallel with Jersey. And then sit out there for like a week or two. That happens every once in a while, so I'd love for that to happen now.

    Wondering if the high pressure is moving it SWard? ...to warmer waters is probably better for its survival. It’s August so anything is possible...

    Hope so! That'd be amazing! Just sit off Monmouth County! Hell! Even off of LBI or points south.

    That's waaaaaaay outside of our swell window.

    Our magic numbers are more like 35, -65

    Strange indeed.

    The weather in NC for the past month has been exactly like rainy season in central america so not too terribly surprised.

    Desperation causes people to see things that arent really there. This system is like a fart in the wind.

    The tropical models look really dismal for the foreseeable future. The pattern is all wrong for the east coast but is setting up perfectly for our friends in Southern California. Under the patterns in place over the next 10 days the tropical energy gets pushed south and west towards Central America where the waves can emerge in the Pacific and turn into storms.

    It's all La_Piedra's doing. He's been down there doing wave chants on the beach, and singing to dophins.

    We could use tropical activity, even if its coming from a non tropical location. BTW Noaa report on activity this season once again a total failure. Not sure why they even keep doing it. I guess its to sell canned goods. Delmonte needs their cash.

    A very lazy season so far. I foresee NorEasters as the main swell producer this Fall. Should be fun!

    Doesn't appear to be much swell potential though

    Haven't checked, but I gambled on the long-shot for number of Atlantic basin named storms this season; so, I'll take it.
