Woulda been worth it on Saturday afternoon. Then again, I was less than a mile from the inlet and didn't bother. My reason? Pure laziness.
We don't need no hurricanes, I'll take a fat retrograding mid-atlantic low any time. Look what's coming this weekend...
Saturday was small thigh high liners. Shout out to Frost for inspiring me to take my sand reconne skills to a whole new level. Scouted a sand bar the past few days that were showing, trying. Got the empty one up the beach from the pack up SUPs and got one long peeler after another. Noserides. Sunday was nice! Swell filled in. Shoulder high long lines and zoo like crowds at the main peaks. I went to a popular break south of Jupiter Inlet a mile or so, but the crowd was spread out and the sets were many. Lots of SUPers, but they were being respectful of the paddle in surfers, most of us on LBs. Even though it had size, I'm glad I took my 9'0" Mindless single fin out. It was more of a day to get down the line than go vertical. Need the speed to make the wave. Got a few super long fun rides, getting the ones that weren't closing out. It took me 20 minutes to line the first one up, then after that I was dialed in. One wave was super fast down the line and out of nowhere there is a SUP floating in the midbreak. I'm pumping the LB, yes pumping the LB to get past it, and it gets sucked up the wave just as I go by, and I go high to avoid it, and just barely do. But I got caught in the lip and proceeded to do a floater down a chest high section on my LB and it went sideways and I landed on it with my hip. Question: Is the SUP considered an abandoned vessel, therefore I have salvage rights? Meaning I could legally take it home with me at that point? Just asking. Got a few more, the last one from all the way outside to the sand. Life is goode.
In place of stitches or over top of stitches? Wouldn't the liquid bandage bind to the stitches and make removal difficult? That stuff does work well for smaller gashes
Only for a quick ding repair. If stitches are needed and you don't have a butterfly patch in your beach bag, liquid anything won't help, except for the spray on no leak shit found on TV might seal it LOL
Well-stated. The trough had the suction thing going on; getting out & over that bar you mentioned took a bit of effort.
Get some sleep knuckle heads...DP is going to be good. I can't remember the last time I even surfed Wildwood Crest. Was probably close to a decade ago. I did surf North Wildwood in either 2016 or 2017, though. I knew a guy that was a maintenance guy in one of the motels there in Wildwood Crest and he surfed. I met him through some guys I surfed with down in Cape May. I know a few guys who works maintenance at the motels and surf. One of them even gets to live in the hotel and be on call at night. That's not too bad of a deal. My mom has a place in Cape May that she comes to for the Summer. She'll probably be leaving within another month to go back home to Florida. My best friend's parents also live down there in Cape May, so we go down there when we have a day off, usually. As long as it's nice. I love surfing there, too. It's one of those weird south facing beaches/towns and it can be super fun. I haven't seen Poverty Beach go off in a long time, though. Such a bummer. It was only really good a few times a year, but when it was on, it was ON!
So lame. Had the day off, so would have loved to get some surf in before I leave on a pretty long business trip. It was gross and not even rideable. Not even worth getting in the water over. And it rained almost all day. Got a nice bicycle ride in, but I even got rained on doing that. It's still raining and real foggy out here. It's been a good night to catch up on some laundry and pack. Of course, tomorrow looks pretty frickin awesome. Same for the next day, in the morning at least.
Delmarva was super fun tonight...light wind..sun came out and summer humidity returned. water was crazy warm...like mid 70s...skinned it and was warm even while the sun dropped low. Oh, and the surf was pumping shoulder high with plus sets. from around 5:30:
flew out like a bat out of hell from work yesterday. Told my buddy to have his sht together if i'm going to pick him up. We got onto 3rd E with about 10 ppl spread out, 5 min later 30 n so n so on. It was awesome tho, long peeler with chest hi's. I kept on the 7'2 HogMolly for the most part n tore it up yesterday. drift pushed me to the pier, got dropped in on, but didn't knock my day out. just amazing waves despite the crowd n long paddle out. had a celebratory drink thereafter w the bouyz. This morning was pretty shtty despite having my LB with me i was unable to catch sht. i got a couple before i left n hauled ass out of there since we need less ppl in the water that suck - man in the mirror stuff this morning. Looking forward to the evening, fingers crossed for redemption
Fun DP sesh. It was waist to chest for the most part but about every 10 minutes or so, A nice juicy chest/shoulder 3 wave set would come (2nd one was best). I committed to catching set waves this morning. Wind wasn't really straight offshore, but it was light and glassy! Mid-week goodness! It was cool watching the sunrise and the waning gibbous moon setting out west. Now back to the grind...looks like plenty of opportunity in the coming days/week with sub-tropical systems at play!!! I actually feel "almost" surf content...just a few more!
This recent run of swell continues to frustrate and disappoint. Mornings generally have been good, but tides and winds have conspired against me during my windows of opportunity. Today was a perfect example... glass goodness this morning on the way to work... sloppy hard sideshore with raging current this afternoon after last bell. Sucks...
yea LB, I have been there. It's almost like a Celestial Alignment to score. My stars have been aligned lately...I'm sure yours will realign soon. Plus, you have caught more waves than anybody here given your age...damn that did not sound right but you know what I mean! There are plenty of waves on the horizon this upcoming week (and next).
