It was funny till he threatened him with the cops if he were to ever raise a hand to him, that’s called a bitch move where I come from. You talk bad then you have to deal with the possibility of a physical confrontation like a man, otherwise shut your yap!

I realize there are some tough blokes in SA, butt this isn't one of them. He's not threatening the SUP dude he's threatening to call the cops on the SUP dude. Can he get any more pansy?

BTW, pansies are tough friggin flowers. I plant them every year & they are hardy barstards, lasting well into late autumn & hanging in until the summer hear fries them. Just wanted to give pansies their due.

So this SA flamer guy is a periwinkle not a pansy then.

What happened I bet is that he talked himself into a corner. At some point in a brief moment of sanity he realized hmmmm I bet this guy can take me out, I better find a way to avoid that.

I want to go back to living in a world where the way to avoid that was not talking shit to people unless you're willing to deal with potential physical consequences.

The calling the cops thing reminds me of a story an extended family member told me recently... he was getting into his truck one morning at like 6 am to go to work (lives in SF), when a road biker in full spandex who he'd never seen before rode by, spit in his face, and then stopped and started semi-incomprehensibly screaming at him about "your fucking dog, barking all the time." (Side note: he doesn't have a dog. Other side note, [family member] is 6'6", well over 200lbs, in his early 30's, road biker was a much smaller asian man in his 40's I believe.) He tried to brush it off and get in his car, dude won't back off, finally he's like idk wtf you're talking about, leave me the fuck alone. Dude gets more in his face, talking shit, like, "what are you gonna do about it, pussy?" So finally, [family member] clocks him in the jaw, and the guy immediately drops to the ground hysterically crying and screaming for help. Family member got in truck and drove to work before anything else happened, though a few weeks later he found the window of his truck smashed one morning.

It's like, wait, really? You were trying to start a fight and that was your game plan? Completely blows my mind.

I haven't had occasion to do this in t he past several years, but it works pretty well.

Namely, when some asshat is revving itself into a frenzy & talkin' shiiite & we are within an arm's length of one another I just put my hands behind my back & say you get the first shot, go for it, make it a good one.

It's funny how fast they start fumbling for words. Altercation over, cause at that point it's obvious they're a soft khack, & I just walk away. One asshat cyclist did take a swing at me. A spandex buoy, as I call those over-the-top road road cyclists around these parts, tried to punch me whilst we were both riding on a bike trail in the same direction. He stopped, he stopped, his bike ended up in the thorny shrubs down a hill & he refused to swing at me.

Taxi driver pulled a steel bar on me in NYC, came after me like a hellion, but he was easy. Just ducked & weaved until he wore himself out swinging at me. First thing you learn in boxing (long ago) is how NOT to get hit, slip punches, it's really tremendous skillsets.

Too many stories to bore you with.

You do got to be careful with this stuff though. It's sad, but it's true and a reality. Me and a good chunk of my friends are trained in some sort of combat sport. Been in alot of fights growing up. Most of us are also smaller.... easy targets until it gets to rumble time. Anyway, luckily i wasn't out this night because if i were, i would of been in the mix as i was any other time an altercation occurred.

But yeah 3 of my friends were out at a bar. One boxer, one pro-am boxer, and one competitive body builder who is also an accomplished wrestler. They got jumped by 5 or 6 guys while exiting the bar. So they defended themselves. They all got arrested, considering the injuries the jumpers recieved, they all got screwed and got hit with battery or assault charges. Court, jail time, lawyer fees, big headache. Because they were able to defend themselves they got screwed.

Sucks but sometimes it really is better to walk away. Defend yourself ofcourse, and unlike yankee....i got a rule. It's swing first. But got to end it quick and walk away. That's why I'm glad im a judo guy. I can take someone down quick and hard without pounding someone's face in making worse looking superficial injuries.

It really is good to know. Example.

I was working at a home depot as a teenager. Cashier. Had a line. Some guy walks up behind me with a hoodie on, hood up and strings pulled tight covering most of his face. Little sketchy, i position myself so i can see him out of the corner of my eye as im working. He didn't say a word. First thing that popped into my head was the easiest judo throw i could hit him with. His hoodie was actually right enough that it resembled a gi so i didn't even have to modify it much. Anyway i continue to work. No one says anything. No one reacts. When the line is gone i fully turn so I'm facing him. He steps closer and asks for money gettin the register. I hit him with a trip, come down on top of him and get him into a gi (hoodie) choke. Don't crank on it, just lock it in. He knew right then and there if he puts up any sort of fight he's going out. Cops come and were all good with it. No blood or anything making anything seem or look excessive. Where as my friends didn't want to fight, they didn't ask to get jumped. They defended themselves than ran. But bloody noses, lips, black eyes.... makes things look alot worse.

And I have never been in a bar fight. That I can recall lol

Guys who want to fight in / outside of bars are usually strapped or have a blade, this is what they came for.

Guys who lose their shiiiite in the genpop are much easier to deal with.

    Bassmon makes solid pts.

Self-defense as a last resort is one thing. Bear in mind, people have guns. Some will shoot another for no good reason at all. Discretion is often the better part of valor.

There are too many walking powder kegs out there waiting to explode. Just look at all the road rage incidents. There are those with nothing to lose who resort to violence as the first recourse at any perceived slight. This happens weekly, sometimes daily, in Norfolk, Hampton, Portsmouth, and Newport News. There's the gang element as well.

We live in a safe neighborhood. Five years ago late one night, my son was held up at gun point by three young black guys on bicycles (no sh1t) right in front of our house. When a pistol is pressed against your forehead, one's options are limited.
