I mostly surf but in the summer when its not big out I will sponge or even bodysurf. I plan on buying some really nice hand carved Handplanes for body surfing around income tax time.

Here is kinda what I am getting its not exaclty them but you get the Idea

i believe bodysurfing is more rewarding than both bodyboarding and surfing, its an excellent workout and you can get some killa views.

and someone mentioned colin herihly in a previouse post...he basically revolutionised the drop knee aspect of bodyboarding and absolutely SHREDS southside DE on a stick. one of the few pople that will paddle out at that spot on a stick

i love bodyboarding, but surfers are chill also. Just annoying when you get no respect :/ i think anyone out on big days reserves respect whether its a surfer or bodyboarder

I see very few bodyboarders where I surf.I guess both aspects has its advantages.Just wondering if the bodyboarders have any desire to switch over. One good thing with bodyboarding is at least you guys dont have to shell out 7 bills for a new board.

I LOVE stand up surfing, but I'm a booger for life. NF4L

Everyone deserves respect, but on the big days we command respect

im a surfer but i bodyboard on smaller days or when its closing out and it's pretty fun :D
after i started bodyboarding a little bit i got a lot more respect for them, because i gotta say, the falls are a lot worse on a bodyboard than a surfboard and ive only bodyboarded on waves no more than 3-4ft.

Do you mean after they are pro BB they start stand up surfing? I would have to say because they aren't ****suckers and respect both ways of surfing...

But then again, Jamie O started on a BB and became one of the worlds best stand up surfers and went and tried the Pipe Masters for BB.

the only guys who surf area 51 body boarded it first. the cross over to surfing from the sponge "in my eyes" is natural. u get a view on the sponge and then start wondering what it would be like on your feet. on a side note, i pulled out the sponge this summer and quickly realized the roots (thanx Phildo). drop knee is by far harder then surfing and the loose tail has freedom to it. like I always said, when its on and pumping-the ones in the water don't care who is next to them. they will just pull in.

I think the way it works for bodyboarders that dont transition over. is if you learn to ride a bodyboard and get good at it, and are lucky enough to have some heavy breaks (ideal bodyboarding waves) nearby... you get hooked on surfing these heavy, hollow waves, that only a small percentage of standup guys can manage. When you get to this point, you get addicted to these heavy waves and desiring to surf these heavy waves better, and do not desire to go back to the learning curve and surfing less intense waves.

Having said that, most bodyboarders I surf with, can rip on a surfboard as well.

    What if?

What if I like to ride my 6'-3" XTR 5.2 on my belly and use a curly telephone-looking leash... can't I be both? Let's call it a spongeboarder!

Surfing is way more challenging in my opinion, But I like it all, surfing, boogie, bodysurfing, skimboarding. Only thing that pisses me off is the SUP boards, especially when they try to be in the lineup. its cool when its 2 ft and there in the line up, but when its head high or bigger in the lineup, get the fck out! I don't get those things! Just because Laird rides one, everyone has to jump on the wagon. what a waste of money!

Dude... I make mine (hand guns for body surfing). Fairly easy, just takes time.
Get some good wood, clamps, glue, planer, powersander, jig saw, cloth & fiberglass. If you wanna get fancy you can both sanding and finishing glassing and have it nice and shiney when you are done.
I looked at the prices of some of these and realized I can do one pretty good and still pay about $40 for materials and still come out ahead by atleast $40... and I did it. :)

I have one more gloss coat for the bottom of mine and it will be done. It's frigin bullet proof and it came out fairly pretty. Nice lines, very fishy in design. I'm stoked. Ready for the next one... actually.. the next one is a pinnapple plater!

I'm diggin working with woods, but damn blasa is expensive.

Staying on subject... I ride surfboards 90% of the time, the other 10% is spent body surfing or mat surfing. I really love taking my mat out... too bad it just bit the dust last week. Finnaly got to the point that I couldn't patch it up no more. Sigh... so sad. It was a good mat, it will be missed. I really loved kicking out into the lineup on my mat and seeing people's faces... just completely confused by me kicking around the lineup on an inflatable. Then seeing them astonished after I paddle back out into the lineup after a good wave. Or having some guy that didn't have a clue about my sirfing skills think it was okay to drop in on me while on my mat only to have me catch up to them and grab their leash and then bark at them to the point they felt shamed by being called off a wave by a guy on a mat. :p I really dig taking the mat out. I'll miss that mat.
