I have it from being around Abrams tanks and Bradleys and shooting without plugs for years. That compression hit from those cannons and large Caliber rifles wrecks those little “hairs” in your ear drums.
I almost forgot, one thing I do when applying H2O2 or vinegar in my ears is this - not making it up... ...once I squeeze a few drops out of a soaked paper towel into my ear, I wait 30 seconds so it permeates. Then I do three long low whale like bruuuuhhhhh like noises to vibrate my ear bones and residing debris, and between each blast of echo noise I pinch my opposite nostril and then suck air into the other nostril to get some of the liquid up into my Eustachian tube. ...then I tilt my head, let the liquid run out, and do the other ear. I like making whale noises. My wife thinks I'm nuts. "Huh?" "What honey?"
I have used a Water Pic dental appliance with great success. Fill with lukewarm water and use lowest pulsating setting, lean head over sink and insert tip of tool in your ear. It's slightly uncomfortable at first, but not at all painful. You'll know when you're done...it's like buying a new ear canal. Your hearing will improve noticeably and you can feel the hairs tingling lol. You will also notice the insane amount of gross-smelling garbage that comes out. A physician did this for me years ago when my ear canals were to the point where I couldn't hear my VW bus running, and I was experiencing killer shooting pains. Cleared it right up, and I do it for maintenance when the ocean water can't seem to find its way back out.
Your skiing could contribute to the problem as well. Forget not - air is a fluid as well, just a bit thinner than water.
I don't like the look of ear plugs, but I do love being able to hear. That said, I opted for these and have not looked back. Comfortable, classy, and THEY WORK.
