I agree with alot of this. I feel like a job can tell you alot about a person though. Desk job vs manual labor. Im NOT saying people with desk jobs are lazy and manual labor guys aren't. But a manual labor guy might be a hard worker or likes to be active. Maybe handy. There's so many diffrent desk jobs but it can suggest certain traits for sure. Obviously none of it is written in stone. My dislike for vloggers takes this same approach. They obviously think people want to watch thier lives. Well that definitely says something about a person. Me me me me me. With all the social media these days and vlogging the me me me me mind set has become very apparent and it's quite unhealthy in my opinion
I think its stupid that Surfer even has such an award for blogging. If they are going to have such an award clearly the top 3 out there are JOB, Brett Barley and Gravy. Of the 3 my personal favorite is Brett Barley.
Just the fact that you watch those blogs is exactly WHY Surfers has an award program. You are the cause, along with lots of others. I find them boring, tedious, and out of my life 100%. But if you wish to spend your time there, go to it, friend!! Go to it!!

None of the others have put together a video remotely close to that one and Brett has 2 or 3 others just as good.
I don't get it. Sarcasm? Because we surf and surfing is selfish? If so i never understood that. Surfing being selfish. We have underwritten rules we follow. Rules that allow multiple people to take turns and stay out of each other's way. Everyone gets waves. Sharing. I don't know i just never understood that stigma
DUDES And dudette He (Bene G)must have seen our swellinfo.com (the premier surf forecasting website) threade on Ben Gravie I noticed a video on my YouTube 'recommended' list from him, it was posted a day ago... I figured I would quickly scan through it since it had a title about surfing "well over head barrels" or something... sorry guys it was hard to resist with a title like that... At first I fast forwarded through some of it.. then I thought "let me see what this guy has to say" turns out, IT SEEMS, that he was acting totally different then the other few videos I saw. He talked about giving back and being encouraging and thankful. And was kinda funny at some aspects. And at the end he had set up a giveaway with a recent sponsor, which I remember someone mentioning he never 'gives back' AnywYs- I thought it was worth mentioning. Maybe someone else could watch and add comments Maybe he is turning over a new leaf? Or maybe it's a show? Guess time will tell. it was still a Vlog, you know, but there was some pretty funny parts

I'd be curious to hear you get into this more. You think more people these days who would fall into the predisposed to manual work category find themselves in desk jobs?

This. I love manual work and find it very satisfying, but as of right now my best opportunity to make decent money is in finance, behind a desk 8 hours a day. I would never consider myself lazy and neither would any of my colleagues. In fact I think my restlessness at work ends up coming across as hustling. When I go home I promptly get covered in sawdust or fiberglass. I think my destiny was to do manual work, but since I was "smart" growing up I kind of got railroaded into college (and debt) so now I'm finding my way through that.
Yeah. For me growing up any trade or manual labor had a negative stigma. Like your not good enough for anything else. Now im in HVAC/R. I think alot of people, at least kids these days, will try a desk job or somthing over a trade. Just because of ther stigma. The kicker is those trades guys, especially the ones with there own company, they are ther ones with the big ass houses around here
I think that stigma is changing. Trump has been making the trade business great againe, pushing the apprentice program and working hard for the blue collar workers. Kids growing up will hopefully see this and get involved in those careers. I sometimes wish I was better at working with my hands. I fell into sales and it has given me a good life, but if I were to do it all over againe, I might get into a trade. I went to school for architecture and my original dream was to be a builder / developer. That never happened.
From data I have read, 85% of college students never get into the work field they majored in. That is pretty sad. So, either reality sets in after college, or colleges/universities are doing a lousy job with reality. Having said that, college never was about "getting a job", it is about "being educated". Trade school is about getting a job.
