When my sons were younger, the skateboard was their primary mode of transportation. My oldest son took up surfing...after his old man, I might add. Probably figured if that old fart could do it...
My son and his friend wanted to learn how to surf this past spring/summer. One of the funniest times of my life surfing with those two. Everything you could imagine happened to them out on the water - sea lice infestations, scary close porpoises, broken leashes and broken surfboards. Let my son learn on an old 9' long board that had huge stress cracks and a soft deck that I repaired a few times. He caught on pretty quick but pearled the board one to many times.
You don't remember the bible thumping troll who gives away free surf boarts to lure kids? He and his wife have like 10 kids or something. They lived in Cocoa Beach, not sure if they moved to NJ or not.
The Wayne threads are right up there with the Roy threads. Classic stuff My kid don't surf. Like Billdrit.
I haven't come across Roy in years. I think he came to this site after his crap was no longer tolerated and he got booted from Swaylocks.
My kid never surfed much, but she did get invited TWICE to play the Christmas concert two years in a row, as a violinist, at Carnegie. Unfortunately, she had this special skill and got labeled as a "prodigy". Personally, I hated that label; fucking hated it, still do!! But, it got her invited all over the world to play. Then at the end of college, she decided NOT to be a musician to earn a living. She had enough of the Harvey Weinstein's in music. She now teaches at an IVY. But she does want me to teach her daughter. I will do that.
