Probably only work south of the outer banks, if it was a warm winter, and you had a lot of natural insulation. I need new gloves, and maybe a hood, my gloves now are all stretched out and they're only 1.5mm EDIT, I didn't see 'two" I though you meant one 3/2 suit all winter!
yeah my gloves are 1.5 but are oneills and are glued and all that. but i had to break down this year and buy a hood which i have said i will never wear one but once i came to conclusion it was so worth it with all of the extra warmth and no ice cream headaches.
It would work, but I can't image how you could ever get the second suit on over the first. A few winters ago in Dec with water temps in very low 40s, I did a 2mm spring under a full 3/2. It was a b-tch to get on/off, felt stiff and bulky. I was warm for about 1-1.5 hours (with 5m claws, 7m boots, 5m hood). However, after that session, I got a Hyperflex Amp 5/4...and Matt J wasn't even posting here at the time
yea my friend told me that he did it one winter and i couldnt believe lasting all winter in delaware/ocmd with double 3/2s or at least being able to move
I use to have this rash guard that was made out of Poly Fleece material and it repeled moisture. It really kept me warm and the when I took it off it was dry even after a long session. I got it at Kona Sports in Wildwood , NJ . I have to run by there and see if they still have them in stock
Matt, with all kidding aside about your current Hyperflex sponsorship. IMO they really do make kick a$$ polyfleece thermal layering. I have a L/S shirt, shorts, and a full body suit. They are warm and prevent that dreaded rash. WETSUITGEAR.COM out of Somers Point, NJ carries them. If you order there tell Scott I sent ya.
Yeah Hyperflex sells them I saw them in Stone Harbor at Wetsuit World. This one I use to have was made of that polyflece lining that is inside of my 5/4/3 flow . Its the same material on the inside and out . The rash gaurd I was looking at in Wetsuite World had the lineing on one side and on the outside it had like a regulare rash guard type material. I have to run over to Kona and check it out tomorrow and maybe over to Wetsuit World and see what else they have
Yeah my friend has done it. its really a dumb thing to do, you'll be warm but youll be restricted. It will make your session so much shorter just because you'll be too tired after the first few duck dives.
i got no problems staying in 5 or 6 hours or until the sky is devoid of all light. with how dead it's been the last couple of weeks i could endure 12 hours of it this cold.
I did it one time out of desperation. It was a few years about when it actually snowed in Hatteras, and me and the boys went to Buxton to get it. It was perfect offshore, reeling head lefts, classic Lighthouse. BUT, I ripped a hole in my 4/3 the day before, so I doubled down on 3/2s... I stayed out for maybe 45 minutes before I got too tired. Too much resistence from all that rubber. Hey, I got a few waves in, so it delivered in a pinch...
closes ive done to doubling is wearing my syncro 1.5mm wetty top under my 4/3 and even that was too much. It was like having restriction bands around my arm when paddling and pushing up
Polypropylene shirts are the truth. It's like an extra mm of warmth and you can barely feel it underneath. I got FCS. What other brands make these? Highly recommended way to get that extra warmth...
i've been looking and I'm very interested in getting one now. I saw O'neill has a line (13oz) of shirts. I'm going to check the local shop today.
I don't have a flash player on my iPhone, but go to surfFCS.com and look for it... The polypropylene line is called "inner system"
I picked up a pair of those polypropylene socks for wearing under your booties I heard alot of good stuff about them and cant wait to give them a try . They were only 12 dollars so no big loss if they turn out to be a flop
O'neill http://beckersurf.com/oneill/42361?...content=datafeedlink&utm_campaign=froogledata this is a pretty good deal. I might pick this up tonight. My local shop doesnt have many of these, so i have to get one online.
