How hard is it to drive 10-15 minutes to another spot if it’s not breaking out front? Seems it doesn’t matter much where you stay if you aren’t lazy and are willing to hit different spots depending on wind / swell direction.
Or, you could stay where it's good surf 90% more of the time instead of driving around looking. Buxton has the surf. Frisco/hatteras not even close. You're on vacation to surf. The best surf is right in front of you. Look out the window. There's waves. You surf. Stay elsewhere, go drive around missing it. You're on vacation. I am friends with the locals. They surf buxton, unless... But mostly they get pissed off when you mention the southside. They call it noside. Fickle as it gets. But i have had great waves down there... When buxton isn't good.
what are you disagreeing with? That there is not much difference? Yea, Buxton’s surf is more consistent. Hatteras Village is still a cool place to stay. CyC is staying in Hatteras Village with his family, he is not staying in Buxton. Not sure why you staying in Buxton 23 times helped with his question. I bet he already knew that the surf conditions are typically better on Buxton side. The issue was the #dolt reserved a place in Hatteras Village and he was wondering about it. I wasn’t trying to piss on his parade...
Thanks. And you nailed it for him on the chill factor. Burrus red&white, sonny's, south point tower, izzy inlet, in front of the cabanas...i love surfing at the bathhouse. A lot of waves.
Thanks for the info and opinions gents. There's a place in Buxton where I've stayed many times in the past and wanted to stay there this year again. But #dolt jumped the gun on me because she saw a place with a pool. She didn't know the friggin difference between Buxton and Hatteras Village in terms of beach direction, even though she's also been to Buxton quite a bit. She's never done propre sand reconnoitering. #dolt will pay for this slip up.
If we cancel we eat the 200 dorrar deposit. I'll prolly PM you two in regards to local eatery/drinkery establishments as we get closer to departure in August. I've never been South of Angelos pizza on the island. Never felt the need to. I always found what I needed from the old lighthouse parking lot all the way up to S turns.
That is the beauty of OBX. Depending on swell and wind direction you got options that are a short drive away.
There’s some cool places to eat / drink in that area, you can’t miss. If you haven’t done so before, I recommend taking the ferry over to Ocracoke Island and spend some time there. We went on a day surf was meh and just enjoyed the restaurants, bars, and other cool stuff to see down there. There’s a beach too, but we didn’t try it out, I wonder about surf on Ocracoke. Anybody ever done it?
I repeat myself, sorry. The guy i know from ocock says they occasionally get surf, but he spends all his time ferrying over to surf, you guessed it, buxton, and the guys i know from the southside are all surfing, repeat, and the guys i know from buxton have never even been to ocock. So if you want to do the family chill thing, yeah, frisco, hatteras village are absolutely beautiful and have some good surf, and ocock, too, but that place is an overrun ugly nightmare in midsummer. Now all that being said, you can get big swell where hatteras village is the best option, or prevailing sw swells, too, and end up scoring out front the entire trip, because those two scenarios can be frequent down there that time of year, and that's what i'd be hoping for.
I can't help but think that if she's put up with you all these years she must be a good Ol' Lady and deserving of leniency. If I am incorrect I recommend the tried and true punch in the face for the #dolt
The error wasn't *that* severe, you're still going to Hatteras dude I was thinking more along the lines of having the #dolt being home another #dolt for the weekend. that'll learn her
