I feel like a real kook asking this but I thought I'd get some advice before I screwed this up. Below is a pic of my board, I've never had one before with a rounded tail so I am not sure where I want to put the traction pad. Should I just go two inches in front of the leash plug?
i always put the end of the pad (not the block) at my fin plug closest to the leash cup. For my reg. sized board (5'9) i put the pad like i said above For smaller boards (under 5'8) i put the pad right on the leash cup For my bigger boards (over 5'10) i put it right in between my two center plugs
You want it between the back fin and the two front fins. Soo I have my traction pad about .5in above the fin plug. If your back foot isn't in between the back fin and front fins you'll most likely catch rail while carving and lose speed.
Instead of guesstimating by using the leash plug as a point of reference or just slapping the thing on in between you fins, where do you actually plant your back foot on your board. I know when putting mine on that I line it up even with the aft center FCS plug. So when my foot is planted against the rise on the end of the pad it is over the last 3/4 of the trailing edge of the center fin. How did I come to this conclusion?; I put my board on my bed like you have yours and just stood on the dam thing and took note where I always put my back foot.
I like that idea! I never really thought about that and johnnyav13's thing too. i guess next time i do seadaddys, and if my foots not inbetween two fins... Ill just put it inbetween the fins
Where you step back to when you do a hard snap should determine where you place your pad. Your foot should sit on the flat when you pop up, but be right against the wedge at the back of the pad when you step back to turn. If you don't move your back foot around, and some people don't, you might consider waxing it up and riding it for a while until you see where your footprint is. Then scrape and clean the wax off and put it there.
