Just turned 55 this weekend, and I still ride pretty much everything. But I never played contact sports in high school. I think that's what beats people up and catches up to them in their 40s and 50s. That, and physical labor jobs like the construction trades. I could be wrong, but I think that's the sh!t that'll kill ya... or at least make you old before your time. I remember building houses for a few years, and I never felt in worse shape.
Yup, no contact sports in school either, but I did swim for my school for 4 years. And what is the one joint that occasionally bothers me? ....right shoulder blade. And I am still riding all boards except the very short ones. Nothing to be gained there anymore. AS for the dovetailed fish, they never appealed to me, not visually nor how they ride. i did have a Larry Mabile fish square tail made for me by G&S, but after using it for a bit, sold it. But it was a fun ride. I took it out once on a 6-8 foot face day and had a ball. But, we never get enough of them there waves so it was bye-bye!! NEXT!!
I played organized football and no pads neighborhood football, organized and neighborhood baseball, street hockey, skateboarded, practiced Tae Kwon Do and did full contact competitions, plus I boxed and fought other guys in the neighborhood in the front yards of our houses for fun, and played basketball in the hood. I hope my body holds up into my 50's - 60's. I'm turning 38 next month and feel some of the damage, mostly my shoulders and knees. I just keep as active as possible to not let them get rusty.
Finally got to take this puppy out in some solid surf this morning. Only 4-5' but some power on the sets. Got 4 waves, one really goode right, backside, honestly didnt think i was gonna make the drop but grabbed the rail and held tight. got a nice barrel after i made it to the bottom. Turning on it is weird, which i still need to dial in, but felt really comfortable out there. will keep for a few more sessions and decide to keep or sell
Was it that short hollow right that breaks towards the jetty? That thing could get really fun sometimes
