I kinda think so man...that paddle in drop is crazy. Then to pull in was icing on the cake. I haven’t seen anything that tops it. The part towards the bottom of the drop where he staggered a bit was shear speed power and critically pulled off. He looks like he was blown out of that thing....

No way he should take that award. Had he been wearing and riding yellow instead of blue, then maybe. Blue is so yesterday.....

Right on. He said he was so close to making it but the foam ball came from a different direction than he expected, "underneath, through him and onto his back instead of from behind". That part where he nearly falls but catches himself and cranks the turn is sick.

I remember watching that one live on the contest and said to myself that would be ride of the year. He hooked under the lip like it was backdoor.

    Yeah that's just nucking futz

He clearly got spat out and made it in my book, that big gnarly foam ball just snuck up and took him out at the end

    Holy freaking cow.

My personal opinion... yes (although i havnt seen other entries). In waves like that "making it" takes a diffrent meaning. He got blown out before falling. And that whole thing was wild. That's my opinion. But i am surprised that it won. Because it wasn't a clean clear cut make. With the way professional surfing is and all the criteria and rules. Definitely surprised the guys in charge let the fact that he did fall at some point slide.

Don't know if he should or shouldn't win the award... but if you watch closely that point in the drop where he wobbles at the 27-28 sec mark is actually when is fins pop out and only his inside rail is skimming the face of the wave. Look at the wake in slow mo. Pretty rad.

Yeah that shit is awesome. I wasn’t suggesting whether he should or shouldn’t be the winner. I haven’t seen enough other rides to compare. The article was written with the question about if it should count and even Twiggy himself questions it because the ride wasn’t a clean finish. But such an awesome ride regardless IMO.

I'd give him Respect of the Year but that wave Ramon Navarro rode was mental. There's a bunch of if's in this but if he had paddled it (probably impossible) and if he was a tad bit deeper it may be the single greatest ride and wave I've ever seen. I can't even image seeing that in person much less riding it.

He should get credit for making it because he got into the pit, got barreled, and shot out. Proof was his board getting sucked up at the END of the tube, after the foam caught up with him. I think if you saw it from a water angle (God help the photog) you would agree. But there is way room for debate.

I'd have to see the other rides to decide if he should win the award. But yes, IMO it should be counted.

I found Healy's second reefer quite impressive...
