So i imagine in this scenario they don't arrest you and you don't fight back? Do they violate your rights by entering your home to search and seize? so much for property protection and your rights to come and go and live without government intrusion. Maybe its just a good old street shakedown? Im not saying this is reality and I realize that what will be will be.

My guess is if they are able to take your gun rights, that won’t be the only rights they take. If they want the guns, they will get the guns. I seriously doubt 99% people are prepared to go to war like they did in the old days. I think you’ll see some try to fight it, probably huge protests and fighting, maybe some killing, but most will roll over and take it in the rear end, no lube.

I think we are creating the mental health issue. I remember when Prozac first came out, it was like a culture shift. It became a punchline for late night tv, all the magazines were writing about it, that was 1988. Since then I've known multiple people on anti depressents, most women get a script after child birth for post partum. Our coping skills are chemically dependent.
The internet, well, I don't know, people seem to find affirmation for their twisted ideas or get obsessed with other shootings, get in their comfortable little echo Chambers till they act out. Been around since early 90's .
Columbine was 99 and it hasn't stopped since.
I know Im reaching, other factors, nature vs nurture and all that psych 101 crap.
    I also blame the Kardashians

Well, depression and anxiety is a real thing, I know first hand how it feels at a minor level. I say minor because it really is compared to what some people deal with. When I realized that it was something I needed to deal with I went to the doctor and they immediately gave me Paxil, simply because I told them that I had a friend who they said it helped them. They just said OK let's try it. So I did.

10 days in I was about to have a heart attack from this stuff. I stopped taking it cold turkey. Then they tried putting me on Zoloft with a combination of low dose Xanax that I would take when the anxiety kicked up. I stayed on that regime for a few months. At first I thought it was helping but then when it really started to do it's work on my mind I didn't like how I thought, the dreams I would have, the general change in personality. I didn't like it. It wasn't me behind the wheel anymore.

So eventually I stopped taking that stuff and decided I was going to go all herbal. I have my days still but overall I'm much happier and more myself. But it's not for everybody. And who knows, maybe one day I'll stop smoking. OK, who am I kidding?

There is widespread use because it's the lazy solution. We rely on doctors to give us the right solution but 9 out of 10 times they resort to medication right away. They won't tell you to smoke herb instead or offer some alternative. Maybe one day that will become more the norm as the medical marijuana makes it's away across the nation and then eventually the recreational.

But right now, most will just say here take these pills. Or you might get to sit down and talk to someone about your problems, someone who probably has just as many if not more problems than you do.

The reason for people being depressed in many cases is simple genetics. In other cases it can be brought on by traumatic events in life, for others it could be alcohol and drug abuse. Some is preventable, others not so much. It's very complicated. Being born in America is a blessing, but it doesn't make me happy or not depressed, it has nothing to do with it. For someone who's born with the issue there's really no curing it, you just manage it. Some people are just wired differently.

This is just small part of it though. I also believe that people have fewer meaningful relationships than we use to in the past. This is a result of too much technology and not enough human interaction. Selfish, self absorbed people this society has become. The number of families coming together to sit at the dinner table and talk to one another without any phones at the table has gotten few and far between I'd bet.

Plus I think the constant pressure to perform and produce at work gets to some people and they break down mentally and snap. The endless pursuit to pay bills and manage responsibilities takes it's toll i'm sure. Man, if we could all just hit the lottery lol

It's not the Kardashians who are to blame. It's Caitlyn Jenner.

    +1.
I agree that depression is a real thing DP, and not trying to say some people don't benefit from meds. I definitely feel they are over prescribed, possibly for Pfizer and Lily and the others bottom line. It is a business. And we are the petri dish to see what long term effects an over medicated society becomes. 30 years now since the magic pill arrived that was going to make everyone happy, the new SOMA. ( Not Viagra Barry, jk, hope all works out with the operation)
And I agree about herb, but that's definitely not for everyone, it can cause anxiety in some people, and is great for others.
I did a job for a psychologist this year, big renovation. He opened up a yoga studio below him in hopes of weaning his patients off , both therapy sessions and meds, by going the holostic route.
We often talked about the placebo effect, which fascinates me. The idea that something can work and change body chemistry, even kill cancer cells, because we are tricked into believing it will work. Lots of potential in our own brains.
Holy crap this thread got derailed.

I do pick up my own trash too.

That's cool, I hope he helps a lot of people. I say whatever works for the individual as long as it's better than what they were doing before. Physical activity definitely helps me. Staying busy does too. The more I sit idle, the worse it gets. But it's never fully gone, it's like a program playing in the background at all times. The key is to drowned out the negative thoughts and occupy the mind with positive ones.

    No, it's the Kardouchians. ;)
Any man who comes in contact with those women gets cursed or messed up in some way. Kris Humphreys was lucky to get away when he did..

Add a licensing/permit process to owning a gun, and you have the rest of the world's free democracies, not Venezuela.

I do think there should be some sort of test. I mean, you can't drive a car without a license that you get by passing a written and driving test.

If you dudes think rifles and handguns are going to protect you from a rogue government, you're outta your minds.

I don't care what you have, how many ya got, and how much ammo you have, it will do nothing against longbows fired from Apache helicopters, bradley fighting vehicles, tomahawk missileas, and AC-130's that can vaporize you before you know they're there. The only thing they will allow is for you to die with honor, which is still acceptable in my book.

Civil unrest, those angry mobs some of us are so terrified of, that's when your rifle will come in handy.

And this is coming from a gun guy...

I own guns for two reasons
    1. Put meat on the table
    2. Protect my home and family from burglars, zombies, unruly mobs, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, and anyone from Uzbekistan.
As was pointed out above, If the gov't wanted to take my guns, they could do so without breaking a sweat and I'd be dead. The only way to stop them would be to unleash some sort of electromagnetic pulse to render their technology useless. Then take to the hills only to come down to raid the populace, to take their women and goods back to your lair.

Yeah but don't you think if the government was taken over by a crazy dictator that some in the military would revolt and use their military weaponry to fight on behalf of the people? It could level the playing field some. A true civil war could break out. An angry armed mob with a little help from the big guns. Think about it, it could be fun.

Kinda like land-locked Vikings. Not the Minnesota Vikings. More like Vikings from the show on the History channel.

Good point re the mobs coming for your shiiiiite, Chavey. Whether they are out there to take over beach homes or mountain homes or any other property, mob rule ain't no good rule, not in America.

    Weapons, good.
Over-prescribed prescription drugs for America's snowflakes, bad.

Mob rule is bad unless it's to fight against evil, then it's good.

Yah, butt who determines good vs evil?
Meaning, there's folks who post on here who think mob rule is acceptable to take over the political system of America & oust elected officials through violence ("resist"), simply because they believe their opinion is the way & the truth aka good.

    It's a slippery slope, eh?
