That was one of the worst ones I heard about. Everything bad this year has gone down along the crystal coast. A crazy amount of drownings too.

She has strong will power for keeping her spirits high. In life, some things are just out of our control. I hope she makes a full recovery.

I hate these fuckin things. Period. Time to start shark soup restaurants up and down the coast and seal meat on a stick in Chinese food restaurants.

That right there news article is my absolute worst fear with my daughter.

Yeah, let's kill off the wild portions of the ocean so it's wave pool safe for suburban family hobby time. F_ck that.

when some buddies and i took a trip up the coast to OBX, i could def spot on the map that the more northern spots up Crystal Coast were sketchy. we ventured further south to ride, but this incident is bizarre being during the early afternoon. it's no new smyrna tho, those ppl should hang their heads up hi

Yeah, there’s a time to react and a time to maybe relax alittle Wave. just because I hate these “Wild portions” of the ocean and I’m more concerned for my “suburban family hobby” than the sharks doesn’t mean everything I say is face value. But beyond that, so anybody that has an opinion that’s not kosher with nature or has an issue with things that eat people are wrong? Must be my suburban dad thing kicking in when I say that the reason I hate these garbage gut killing machines is because they can be a threat to my kid. Sorry. Maybe I need to stop washing my hair and get back to nature.

I have family down there, and we stay 10 minutes from Atlantic Beach a few times a year. I surf and swim about 5 miles south of the incident over the past 10 years.

Never seen any sharks or heard of an incident, but my father in law has pictures of medium sized bull sharks near a dock inside the Beaufort inlet. The inlet mouth is 200 yards away from Fort Macon swimming beach. Bull shark would be my guess for the attack.

Going down there in a couple weeks, definitely going to stay close to my young daughter in the water.

It sounds like a Bull shark rather than a white - with the whites it seems to be usually a whoops bite and then let go. The bulls know that it’s food and will keep going. Maybe why dad had to pound the sharks head like a gong. Poor kid. Strong kid though too.

I don't particularly like wading in the ocean. Seems a higher percentage of the attacks occur to waders.
Rays too are a concern of mine...more so than sharks. Chunks of metal and other sharp objects on the bottom are another phobia.
Going out, I generally hop on my board as soon as possible.
