This actually almost happen to me... about 15 yrs ago. Lima is generally safe by the beach, but inland be careful.

Long story short- I was trying to get back to the hotel while my friends continues to drink all night at the bars. I was struggling with my Spanish trying to get a cab-immediately I was hostilely surrounded by 10 cab drivers trying to lure me in their cabs and showing me cards of places they could take me instead of back to the hotel- places like strip bars and such- THANKFULLY a police officer was observing from the street corner and indiscreetly motioned me to stand by him... once I moved toward him they all left... and the police officer gave me a ride back on the back of his police dirt bike... craziest ride through the city- up on side walks and around everything!

I believe there are more and better places for uncrowded waves than Angola.

but if you're going for the cultural experience, have fun. Be sure to really soak it in by exploring the interior (anywhere more than one block
Now *that’s* a cool sarfin anecdote. Very cool.

The only no go places I know of are some of the threads that have all the cut and paste articles ...you'll never get a lucid thought , just cut and paste like I. Kindergarten. Its a no go!

I had a somewhat similar experience in central america. Only difference was I went with the cabbies and instead of losing a kidney I lost my inner nose lining from all the "booger sugar" plus my face was sore after being assaulted by stripper boobies. Can I say boobies? I just got off a 2 week banning for f-bombing about the people in Duck, NC.

Yes. Very dangerous down here. If it were me I would prob stay away from the coast all together.

I-40 west will save you from the sharks. Use it.

Haha Mt. Vernon is an anomaly. I used to work with the good folks at Johns Hopkins that had offices there. Inner Harbor is safe too. There are other sections where I roll up the windows, lock the doors, don't look at anyone, and pray I don't break down or get in an accident.

Is it just me, or do most of the victims in DR seem to be older people?

When all those people were dying in Cancun from "bad liquor", most of them were attractive younger women.

If these people are being drugged, it's for different reasons.

Unless Kellen Winslow Jr has been in the DR lately
