lol this thread is referring directly to my videos. I make them with songs that I love. I do respect everyone's tastes that are not the same as mine but it is what it is. I like heavy metal/post hardcore more than anything. A lot of it reminds me of surfing. If I was to make a video with say Jack Johnson or rap or something else, I wouldn't enjoy watching it or creating it, which is something that's necessary.
i really don't want to see club/dance/hip hop on Jersey surf videos. i don't know where you are from gnarly but hardcore/punk and metal are more the culture here. a lot of us grew up going to shows at the Stone Pony, the Saint and Casino Skate Park (RIP). Some of us even skipped high school on a regular basis to skate and go to shows. Jersey Shore bands like Floorpunch and Underdog should be rotated into the youtube videos. yeah! -SLADE
id have to say as an all around music lover, i love watching vids with hardcore metal. What is eastcoast surfing in the winter?....well its deadly, violent and all around hardcore! it all really depends on the editor, conditions and how bad ass the riders are....dont sensor the artist!! if you dont like it? turn it down and put on your Jonas Brothers cd and get your kicks man! but dont hate....or just make your own videos and edit them how you wish....
i like it because it gives a different edge to the video. Most videos are made the same with similar music...usually a slow stereotypical jack johnson song with some guy in the background talking about how the conditions were blah blah blah. Metal gives it more energy and spark. Then again, I wouldn't play metal with a long boarding video unless they're tearing some up some head high waves.
Yeah guys, metal rox and all that. But, from what I recall, you guys have videos with like A Day to Remember and The Devil Wears Prada songs. I guess that's metal, I even have and enjoy albums by both of those bands, but that is "metalcore", which is iTunes review speak for "pop." It's just not that great for surf videos, in my opinion.
^You're right about the metalcore thing.. I always get confused with all these damn -core endings that I just use "metal" and "post-hardcore" Prada and ADTR are two of my favorite bands. Seen them both live and the energy is unreal. Just my opinion though. ADTR got into one of my surf videos last Spring and Prada may during this Spring.. we'll see. To me, surfing/BBing around here does not go with Jack Johnson type stuff. I know when I'm screaming (not literally) down the line in a fast hollow barrel with 30mph offshores I have some intense music flowing through my mind =] The mellow-est I get is Marley/Pearl Jam on the way to a certain spot I go to with a spilling wave. I could go on and on with music that reminds me of surfing with the 5000 songs I have in my library.
because Metal Hypes. Listen to some brutal **** before you paddle out and it makes a difference. Like you just wanna round house kick the wave face. I'm not talking about A day to remember either... I'm talking about Between the Buried and me, The black Dahlia Murder, Through The Eyes of the Dead etc....
A+ on calling Floorpunch and Underdog... but I think that hardcore is not for these guys... they seem to like all the modern metal/hardcore ****..
