It took us 3 months to notice that the buoy "swell ht" readings were being shown in meters and not feet... this has been fixed. wvhgt and swell ht are both in "ft". This prob. slipped through the cracks because there hasn't really been any ground swell events all summer up until now (Frances)... so most just looked at the wave ht.... and not swell ht...
This problem seems to have appeared again. See Eureka, Northern California reports. There's no way a 2.6 ft buoy reading produces 6-9 ft head high waves! It appears that the buoy reading in feet is being interpreted as meters and then incorrectly converted back to feet for the forecast report. All the other nearby forecast locations seem to be correct. I've also been to the beach a few days in a row and there's nothing head high to be seen. swellinfo.com/surf-forecast/eureka-california

Damn, an old Micha thread. I always appreciated when he chimed in. It reminded you that there was a soul behind all the zero and ones. Now this thread will be rolled into the larger, "this site sux now" thread. And the mods will let this place slide further into the abyss. Don't the mods have a dog in this fight? How is goofyfooter more interested in it's preservation than folks actually tasked with monitoring it? Iv'e been spoiled all these years, being able to dissect swell forecasts. Now i'm on windy, trying to figure that **** out. I can't split the swell forecasts up, swell by swell, so far as I have found so far. That type of minutia matters when i'm searching for a tiny bit of push for a giant log. I'm a hares fur from giving up on this site, deleting my most clicked link from my bookmarks bar, and trying to forget the now instinctual habit of clicking on it 25 times a day while I'm at work. Select Wavewatch III as the swell model, click on an output location along the coast. Site provides wind speed and direction and primary and secondary swell height, period and direction
Took me a few minutes to figure out too. The program has layers like Google Earth. Just add the stuff you like (waves) and leave out the stuff you don’t. Touch the location you desire (worldwide!!) and both primary and secondary swells will populate. Touch it again, and a long-term forecast will populate at the bottom of the display screen. Really cool stuff, makes the SI graph look downright analog, although it is still accurate and easy to use.
