Swellinfo Forecast is Dead. MSW is owned by Surflie.. Who's left? Everyone Else...

    Dark times ahead for the surf forecasting world.

    If swellinfo is no longer a source of accurate info.. that leaves Magic Seaweed (which is now owned and controlled by surfline) and of course, the red headed step child of the industry Surfline.
    It will be very very tough for anyone to come close to the resources and funding Surfline puts into buying up keywords and marketing campaigns, buying out any small businesses competition, targeting new users, placing 10 cams per surf spot just to claim the views... and so on.. It's just a joke at this point.

    Stop supporting those kooks! At the end of the day its all open source info!

    Here are more than several resources that will be just as thorough in the future, without visiting the monopoly of hyped surf, suflie. It will only feed their greed!

    My use of Surfline was incrementally reduced and then eliminated entirely.
    Note: I was not/am not a Surfline subscriber.
    6 months or so after I began using ad block (Dec 2018), I was blocked entirely from Surfline. Prior to that, several of the Surfline web cams that I had once viewed were designated as "Premium", so I no longer had access to them.
    Currently, I'm reluctantly utilizing Magic Seaweed and the "vbbound.com" (Virginia Beach Vacation Guide) webcams for Sandbridge and the Oceanfront.
    Web cams are sort of a luxury anyway, right?.

    Thank you for that info. I have used Swell Info for years and I'm bummed that it's dead in the water. The thought of having to pay Surfline nearly $100 a year to see beyond 48 hours is infuriating, especially when Swell Info provided better, more accurate data over the years!

    Swell info always had the last day of the week green and waist high which would slowly over the course of the week change that day to flat or red as it approached. Lol. Very clever tactic to keep the visits steady daily.

    Its like I mentioned before , The forum is here and still getting some clicks and maybe still as much as other forums. Yes the forecast portion has died but here we are nonetheless

    To be honest, on the East Coast, anything beyond the 48 hour forecast is suspect at best.

    Is there a possibility that SURFLINE bought SWELL from Carbon Media (or whichever media conglomerate it ended up with when all these fishing websites were consolidated) with the ONLY INTENTION of KILLING THE SWELL FORECAST so that more people would migrate to SURFLINE? --- and that being one reason for the current "owners" of Swell not to give out any information about the death of their forecast site?

    I can't stand Surfline and refuse to use it. Im using Surf-forecast.com and Magic Seaweed till they fix swell. MS is accurate for some areas but way off in others. I can't see how letting this site go down makes any sense dollar wise by who ever owns it.

    Dude. Calling Surfline and their forecasters kooks is classic. This reminds me of the old Louis CK bit about people complaining "Verizon sucks"...

    If you have "the open source info" go build your own then, you clown.

    The forecasters at surfline are professionals who built custom models to analyze how weather, wind, ocean systems produce ridable swells. Looking at bouys is great, but tells you little about what kind of wave that will product at your local beach. You need to take into account local conditions, bathymetry, direction, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

    Swellinfo was great because it was a local East Coaster who customized his model in the same way, specifically for the East Coast. It's not easy to make.

    You appear know zero about "the industry", or business in general.
