booked that trip to Barbados. going first wknd, extended of course, in February. if anybody has any info to share, please pass along. so far this is a solo trip. i'm all about rum, fish, and surf obv so this trip should be a good one to mark off the bucket list
Be careful on the beaches at night - robbery is a big issue. Its a cool island but the locals can get annoying as everyone is trying to sell you drugs every few feet you walk - at least by Oistins area (more south, south west on the island). Also, I wouldnt buy any unless they show you first. February is good for surf but it is the off season so the night life wont be as crazy. Soup Bowl was blown out when I was there but there are tons of places to surf if you know where to look. descent night life but some spots/nights can get sketchy overall, it is a good spot to get off the bucket list. Just be cautious as with anywhere. One last note, the airport coming back can be a bitch so I would get there at least 3 hrs before your flight back.
Flying into Aguadilla and renting a car. I'm going to rent an airBnB or VRBO in Rincon near where friends are staying at the same time.
i'm super jelly. Only country i'm interested now in visiting in europe. you going up n down the coast or staying put in that region?
Driving down from Lisboa but mostly staying in Algarve. Have a place rented in Sarges with some friends from Europe. Should be fun but the water is unseasonably cold ) :
headed to san agustinillo, zipolite, oaxaca mexico.dec 30 to jan 7 any recommendations from you more seasoned surf travelers? really just gonna wing it and rent a board . i fly free so I'm gonna book places to stay when I'm there same with ground transportation... I'm gonna see how cheap it can be .
Got my usual PR trips in January and April. Just added CR for this June which im pumped for. Its been at least 5 years.
You're really in off season as far as waves are concerned for that area but I bet zipolite could have a few fun ones albeit smaller. But who knows I've only been there in the summer. The water is super clear there...everybody surfs at the west end of the beach but good waves can come off the rock towards the east in front of neptune. I'm sure you've already read about the nudity there.....it's very real ...after a few days it just becomes whatever. If you like a kind of nobody gives a crap hippy vibe you will really like that town. Also it's dirt cheap (although the first part of your trip is highest of the high season). There is some really good food there and a beach front bar that has all kinds of wild mexcal flavors ...snakes, scorpions, ganj, etc. As far as renting a board, might be kind of tough to get anything good probably much better luck in Escondido an hour and change north. Have fun I love that place and it's on my list for retirement
Thanks for the feed back , I hope i get to surf more than think .Ill have a car so I cab go from place to place although my evenings are booked with work related stuff my days are free.MIght even drive south to visit a friend.
got the airbnb places rented out for feb trip to Barbados. buddy and i decided to rent a different place each night, 4 nights x 4 main towns (speightstown, oistins, bridgeport, holetown). i'm over the top amped, wish we would be going in a week vs a month tho. feelin giddy into the new year, we'll see how that works out tonight
Headed to CR for 8 days - leave this Friday. Gonna be in Playa Grande with the wife and some friends. Nobody else surfs, but they'll keep my wife entertained while I'm gone most of the day. Swell looks like it's lining up to be chest to overhead while I'm there. Keeping my fingers crossed for bigger swell!
Just got back right before the holidays (someplace between Jaco and Quepos) Timed it just right. Head high every day then went tiny after i left.
