For sure. Thanks for the info. I looked it up and that looks like an easy place to get to. Lots of airbnbs also. I never know exactly where I'm going until a few days out so I plan on 2 or 3 destinations ...at least its always an adventure!

i pointed Boca Barranca as a potential spot to a lefty buddy before we headed to Pavones, cuz of what i've heard here that it was hit or miss. He absolutely dismissed it, and now i wonder if he kinda regrets it since Pavones pooped the bed. I believe Witches Rock was up there too, but i heard that was a real paddle out

Witches rock was super fun my first trip with the family to Tamarimdo. We took a boat and loaded up on waves for 4 solid hours...I pooped out after 2 hours

Heading to PR for a few days the last weekend in Jan. I'm with a group, but the only surfer. Anyone else there?

Turks and Caicos in March - not a surf trip and not sure what to expect, except that i likely won't get to surf at all from what I read.

Mostly to just relax, maybe hit the waterfalls, rent SUP's, etc

I think PR is straight, just south of PR like Ponce which I didn't really care for. I'd still go if I was you, Sandbar. Have fun, get after it

a week away before i'm off to Barbados. Easterly winds are increasing to head/overhead. looks like south coast of freights & brandens with a chance of east coast Soup Bowl if the current isn't too strong. i've been kinda cranky the last couple weeks due to the midwinter blues, i'm gonna need this vaca badly

Bridgetown. it'll be my first time there hence the hype. it's the best car'bean island to surf at other than PR - what i've read and been told. i think from Miami it's usually $450 R/T. If you read a lot about it, which i have, urryone will tell you there's surf year round and somewhere on the island cuz it's the furthest out east and rides out different wind swells. Now i've made a map of all the spots i could find and heard about, it's probably around 60 spots in an island 15 miles east to west and 20 miles north to south. you just ride around and till you find a spot you wanna go in - and there's no DUI charge there so you can have fun while doing it

Man that sounds awesome my flights are always covered so that's good it seems like a pretty close strike from Florida. I'm starting to do a little research myself since I've never been there I got to check out the car rental situation because it sounds like having a car would be a necessity. Anyway man totally stoked for you and I don't blame you for being all hyped up. Go get your Surf and your drink on but just be careful

I'd say PR is probably the best in terms of size and quality... but not necessarily consistency. I guess it's a tradeoff... you can find a lot of islands with more consistent surf, but it won't be as good when it gets good. I'd agree that Barbados is one of those islands. But there are more...

surf report from Barbados: The east coast was blown out with heavy easterly winds. Soup Bowl never happened, tho we decided to ride up just to see if it was plausible because ppl have said it can be- but this time no way in hell. We didn't have a GPS, problem #1, so we went off the paper map and found Barry's surf shop. We knew the size was increasing throughout our trip; didn't know there was a 3 day min to rent boards- f'n bogus by the way. I got a 9' firewire and buddy got a 8'6 Torq. Freights wasn't going off, so we went a tad further down to South Point where it was waist to chest. Actually, South Point was where it was at all wknd n localism is live and well there tho they're not hardasses bout it. The next day we were up by Holetown, so we decided to find Maycocks and Duppies. Both really hard to find so let me help somewhat - Duppies is down a dirt road where cattle are roped up (almost looks like someone's driveway) and then down a trail from the top point - and it's a slippery slope, tough for carrying boards down. It was chopped up tho with good size and when talking to one guy up there (all old gringos know where to surf fyi), he said the current is strong - best to swim up north parrellel to cove then venture into the waves. Maycocks was sheltered, and it's down the road of a shop with picnic tables outside. Once down that road, take the last left and an open lot is on right side where you can park. The trail splits but both sides work. Just a lil northern swell will make Maycocks work despite everybody out there saying it works only 6x a year, which i call Bullsht. Surfers will pull up once they see you park, which was the case everywhere we went and in fact what one old gringo said would happen. We scored chest hi waves on the northern end, long 100 yard righty peelers. We say ppl when we were unloading and when we were leaving that it was better up that way, but all bout 10 of them went the opposite way - anyhow, we made it look good - and was easily my fav session. That Thurs evening - Barry's closed so we stuck with it - we took on freights' waist hi's which were somewhat forgettable. Next morning we switched - i got a 6'2 Al Merrick Rocket Nine and buddy got a smaller 6' Hayden Shape. South point again was going off - this time closer to head hi. Crowded. Lotta good surfers. Crowded. Had a great session, even got a yeww from a local i saw several times out n bout on a overhead righty pigdoggin screamer. Made it to Brandens that evening where it was the bluest of all places and also as consistent as South Point. That was my buddy's best session, and just incredible ppl out there - beach set up kinda reminded us of Dominicalito, CR. Finally, we got done with Barry's (by the way, the guy was nice but board selection not so much) and took it to Dread or Dead surf shop. I picked out a 7'5 brazilian poly board with quad set up and pintail, cuz my arms were getting tired and this bouy got some range.. Owner really liked the board and kept trying to get me an epoxy SouthPoint - and i flat out refused. It was a good choice on my part - and the son said the same. Buddy went with a shorty, can't remember what, and then switched back to a longer 7'6 Al Merrick cuz by Saturday the waves were going down. It was a mix btwn Freights, South Point and Brandens - all along the South Coast - that Sat and Sun sessions as that's what the winds commanded. All in all, we set out what we wanted to do. Expectations were met but also different. Buddy and I both agreed, Barbados could be revisited 15 years down the road but it's worth checking out. Thanks to the fellas here providing some key info. I'll provide pics and more of the other aspects beyond surfing, but i'm 400 emails back here at work. At least i got a purty tan

i wouldn't mind hitting up some more islands in the process, but like PR has its westside &northside - Barbados has its southside and eastside. It makes sense
