I went to Capitola, Santa Cruz today with a couple of buddies and caught loads of head high waves that broke super long (300-400ft) left and right. Road my longboard as the waves there are slow breaking and long running. When swells are oversized everywhere else Capitola is a sweet spot. Lotsa fun for everyone!
I have a friend in Santa Cruz . i surfed there in August and had lots of fun. It was expensive for accommodations but I thonkbthats Cali for the most part
Awesome. Where did you surf? Yeah, SC gets some amazing surf. The problem is the crowds can get annoying and the locals can be sorta territorial in some spots. Capitola fortunately is friendly and not too competitive. Trick is to go there on a big day.
Thanks. The artwork on Rob's board really makes the shots. It was a dreary day and the sun was mostly behind the clouds. I've got shots of other surfers who were surfing well but because they were riding plain clear boards, wearing solid black wetsuits and the lighting was less than ideal the pictures of those surfers were not worth editing or posting. Those shots are just blaaaaa and nothing I could possibly do in Lightroom or Photoshop could help them. Advice for those who want to see good pictures of themselves surfing in the winter......add some color to your board or wetsuit. It makes a huge difference especially when the lighting is bad. It also helps to surf on a different level too. Also regarding color it helps the person shooting track where you are in the lineup when its crowded in the winter. Example below. Its a great turn on a solid wave that I got a good sequence of. Because of the lighting and the lack of color there really wasn't much I could do with the shot to make it interesting. I can blow out the whites only so far and I can only take the water color, exposure, temperature and saturation so far. Just can't make the shot pop without some other colors in the mix to play with. The only other surfer in the water on a colorful board this session and again I can make the shot look much better than it came off of the camera because I've got some colors to work with. Again, good surfing helps too. Bring Back Those 80s airbrushes!!!!!!!!
Thanks forbthe info. I have been adding color to my last 4 boards and I do need a new suite so ill take your advise!
Surfing? What's that? Been flat as fug for 2 weeks. Also cold as fug. Gave me some time to focus on projects around mi casa. New paint and floors for the guest room. Better get some swell soon b/c I think we are going to rip out the kitchen next.
Flat here all week. Just put new floors in myself. Running out of maney..patience and time. Hoping for something Sunday
Swell dropped to a more manageable level today. Mostly waist high with some shoulder high sets from time to time. Wore my new wetsuite today. I didn't realize how porous my old one was! Getting out of a brand new 4/3 chest zip is quite the exercise in patience. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to loosen up.
A friend snapped a couple of me dropping in and getting a little slotty on a left the other day in Ocean City Maryland. Warning: shitty cell phone pix. Warning: goofy surfing stance
did anyone in New England hit up that mid-period south/southeast swell the other day? interested to hear how certain breaks were taking it. damn, Mitchell is always posting pics of hollow waves. it’s like he does some voodoo dance before paddling out and nature heeds his request
that’s all I was looking for. Thanks, bruh. not like anything is a secret now. Did this place happen to be where there’s an excess of red algae in summer or was it more rocky?
