Yeah, Roberto's is the best ever. I had Ellington shape me a custom back in the day, even hung with Jim for a minute but I don't think he'd remember. He shaped out of his garage on Grand Ave in PB back then. Before that (late 70's) I met him out by SDSU carrying a pintail he shaped. So yeah, he's been shaping for awhile.
sometimes it takes a lil freaking out (me) to demand a surf trip asap. Trip down to S Florida in the cards next wknd. Huge swell maker reigning down on Florida. Drive'r into Flagler friday night. Casually coast into stuart, palm beach saturday. Stay til Monday and coast back up, following swell but likely in space coast up top. Got one buddy to jump aboard. The goal is to shred n trunkz for me at least, but also gimme some look past Space Coast
For sure. Nice swell filling in. If you get to Jensen beach hit up the pier on the north side. If you get to ft pierce hit the inlet on the north side in the state park. Steer clear of Vero beach but check out Sebastian inlet south brevard county. If you end up in cocoa beach ill share a peak with ya.
Hawaii was my original plan for late February early March but its starting to look like Puerto Rico will be the call.
ah, where the good girls gone Carlsbad. did a tour of breaks your way but never hit it at the right time. had to go north or south from there.
4/3 in SD? wtf bro. get a script for that yeast infection. I won’t rock a 4/3 this time of year out west unless I’m at Morro or Moss Landing on a windy day. that or further north. no 5/4 in winter even in the PNW. but I’m from the EC and cold doesn’t bother me. back to the OG tread, PR sounds just great right now. Is DR accessible currently? How about Central America? Probably not with the new socialist regime at Pennsylvania Ave
There are a ton of talented good girls gone (Carls)bad around here. We are kind of in a strange spot. It seems like it is never "the best" here. If it's good here, it's better up north in the summer, or better down south in the winter. Held true for this last run of swell for the last 3 weeks. It got really good here (too good for me), but it was way better down south where clothing is optional.
Never surfed Carlsbad. Always O’side, Leucadia, San Elijo and occasionally Encinitas. It just always seemed a little better at other spots even when I worked in Cbad lol
Got to watch Joey Buran (the Carlsbad Kid) surf during my lunch break tho, Cali's best surfer before Curran. Kid was good. I think he runs a Christian surf ministry these days. Wayne?
South Florida again, just like last month. Covid and all the restrictions and quarantine rules have made everything else impossible. Wanted to go to Oahu again like I do most years or Rincon again or even try somewhere new, but too much BS. Even California seems like too much BS right now.
I think I might take some time next month and drive south to warmer climes. It has been cold as fock in New England. Don't know if I'll make it as far as Florida, depends on time and what I score beforehand. Going to Chicago at the end of March for a wedding. I've been wanting to score a wave on Lake Michigan forever so it looks like good timing to scratch it off the bucket list. I have family along the Indiana lakefront as well, they have a few legit spots believe it or not, and my sister is close to the lake and the Wisconsin border, I may try to get a trifecta in. If I score I will definitely report and hopefully will have a pic or two.
Weather will start to get nice here in March, and it gets really nice in April. April also tends to be a great month for surf. Make sure to get a couple chi dogs and a Lou Malnatis Pizza in Chicago. I lived there for a year (my one attempt at living inland), and I would make a trip back just to hit my favorite eateries.
I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. Earliest "next trip" for me would be about a year from now, in December. Looking to finally get back to the Caribbean... surf/dive trip, hopefully.
Manik, you think it’s been cold as fock in NE? There have been consistent 40+ degree days in between mid 30s. want real cold, wait til tmrw with high in the teens and low in single digits with wind. get a sack bro. maybe some of those fleece lined yoga pants from LL Bean like the NE wahines wear
