Upsizing a 5'10 step up into a 6'0. (In the side by side picture the new board looks enormous compared to the original but that's just the difference in angle in how I had them propped against the fence. In reality the finished board is 1 7/8" longer than the one on the left.)
Set fin boxes, glassed and hotcoated this morning. First time putting carbon fiber on a board which gave me a little drama as one side started wandering once the resin hit the board. Luckily that screw up will be under the trac pad anyway. Will rough sand it this afternoon.
Thanks. I think I came as close as a backyarder could come to upsizing a copy of an existing board by hand. Finished dimensions are 6'0 x 18 3/4 x 2 1/2. Roughly 28.5 Liters. Just have to put the leash plug in and finish sand it.
What a lucky kid! Always liked the "dipped" paint job on surfboards. Nice lush grass too! You are killing it, man.

Thanks. All three kids surf very well. I've always tried to make sure they've had the right equipment. Was always something we could do together especially with my two oldest. You don't see many pictures of my two oldest because back then I was always surfing with them. Its just in the past few years thanks to some injuries that I've gotten into photography. The youngest has a lot of talent and has some very talented friends as well so the photography thing has been pretty fun. Lot of good times...... Oldest Middle child Youngest The old man......
this wknd i'll likely work on my kayak/surfboard wooden rack. Just as a fyi, i bought and moved into a house 15 min from the beach in the beginning of the month. Been throwing $ to get living room furniture, new washer/dryer, fridge fixed, and guest room all hooked up. Now that the inside of the house is bout where i want it initially, I'm bout to work on the backyard which typically is the more fun part to do anyways. Shed is small, can't load the 8 boards i got. My buddies and I play golf (not ball golf) a good bit, and since my yard stretches down like 200 ft I got two baskets. Obv i don't want a disc to hit the surfboards, so I thought of a way to hide them away from any damage. There are a few shady spots, one close by the house and by neighbor's fence that I'm going to build a free standing I shaped rack. My two kayaks will sit on one side (more like a backwards E shape on that side), with my kayak and fishing cart trailer below the horizontal supports, and that side will be facing my backyard. The other side, facing neighbor's yard, will have 7 horizontal supports (the bottom part of the structure will hold my LB which may need to be 10" off the ground). This way the kayaks can take the brunt of the damage if a disc, football, soccer ball or whatever else comes at its direction. In between those 2" supports holding the boards, I'll probably put 6" gaps, enough room for fins to not damage. I'll take a pic on my blurry shtty walmart phone after it's all measured and done. Should be a fun project... may use some leftover non skid pads i found in the house that are used to hold dinner plates still to put over the wood supports instead of pool noodles
Didn't get many pictures of the board I made this thread about. First session was in hurricane surf and he creased it the first session. The board is still usable but its a backup board now.
Standard PU/PE build. He launched off of a closeout section and landed hard on the board in the explosion. Just part of the game. If you've seen the shots I post of my son you know he's always going for it and you're going to do some damage along the way surfing like he does. The stringerless Sharpeye in the quiver shot above was also a victim this fall. That one he landed a freefall floater over a closeout section in his heat at the Belmar Pro and it folded under his front foot on the landing. May have cost him advancing cause if he had ridden out he likely would have gotten the score he needed. This shot is from his free-surf before his heat on that Sharpeye. I fixed this one as it was a favorite board and so far its holding up. The bottom skin was all that was holding this one together before the repair. Buckled from rail to rail.
finally got to work on kayak/surf rack over wknd. Not completely done, didn't have enough time Sunday to finish before friends pulled me out of the yard to get drinkin. Going to raise that red kayak about 8" to clear room for the fishing & kayak carts to slide under. Then I'll build another one for the smaller 12' blue kayak to sit over it. I'll likely put a cross post to connect both posts for stability n piece of mind maybe. They're cemented in the ground
