i'm heading to the maldives in august...similar flight time on that trip, not counting a 24hr stop over in singapore. should be a pretty fun adventure...living on a boat for 10 days, cruising around singapore, surfing my brains out on the other side of the world...
38 hours of traveling= the best tubes of your life....Bali is like a surf movie...just wait till you get waves from temples to race tracks...I think i got 6 tubes on 1 wave
Pacific City, Oregon... in the middle of summer in a full suit. the swell was nice and there were HUGE rock islands like 400yds away
bali is like a movie.. except they dont show you the 60 people out in the water from pre-dawn till after dark. went to bali for a month last june. caught some of the most serious and best waves of my life. coming from new jersey is was such a challenge getting used to waves with so much push backside. but g-land killed bali.. my tip if you go to bali is to GET OUT!!!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AWAY IN BALI! me and my friend did this. we had a driver that was a total legit dude and knew all surf spots but still it wasnt a trip like i like when you go get insane surf in tropical water with your buddies and maybe a local or two to tell you where that rock is. but honestly my favorite place was victoria australia or costa rica (been there 9 times not always the best surf but always the best time). Costa is such a lay back country and with a lil knowledge you can get perfect waves pretty much no crowds. In oz from 13th beach to johanna such good surf and such great people great country period. cant wait to get back. next trip is nica in april. then hopefully france spain Morocco in the fall. LIVE IT UP WHILE YOU CAN!!
hey stoneybaloney if your going to bali i have a driver out there. he is the man. can help you out in anyway.. in most ways most Balinese wont. he charges i think 30 a day for anywhere in bali or java.. knows all the spots. i know its a lil steep on price but you tell him what time to be there and hes there. he watches you surf all day.. will take pics (even tho theres ton at ulu's) and watches your stuff. totally trust worthy i would def not trust one of those kuta cabbies. plus best thing is he knows all the cheap local places to eat that wont give you BALI BELLY which could easily ruin your trip. if your interested lemme know
he also will find you a place to stay.. take you out to canggu for a sunrise sesh.. when it blows out take you over to airports left.. when it gets too crowded to some food.. then take you to check karamas before going over to impossibles for an evening session. take you back to your place to shower then out to dinner. this guy took care of us in EVERY way this guy even came to our place at 3am and slept in his car so he wouldnt be late getting us to the speedboat down in kuta to get out to g-land at 5am. This is a stand up guy that will make your stay in Bali AMAZING. i honestly would not have like this country without him. besides the perfect waves nothing in bali was too impressive. too many people too many buildings too over built. but good choice going in the off months i hope karamas and nusa PUMP give you a taste of that indian ocean.. and a kiss from the reef. BRING BOOTIES DONT BE TOO COOL YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!!
i did central america last fall, and wasn't extremely impressed. i actually liked hawaii, and even sonoma, and marin county california better, but from what i understand november isn't the best time to surf central america.
