UNC Wilmington off the top of my head.

 

Get a place down there and then attend Cape Fear CC until you can transfer to UNC.

 

That's what my sis did.

 

You dont need a 3.9 to get in.. i got in and i only have like a 3.2 at most

Flagler college in st. augustine, coastal carolina in Myrtle beach, College of Charleston. I applied to flagler and uncw...still waiting to hear back. i'd be stoked on uncw.. flagler is sweet though, but small, but hey the water is only 58 there right now and its becoming increasingly popular and the academics are pretty good and getting better

College of Charleston is about 15 min from some good spots along Folly Beach. Four years I've been here its been mad fun.

 

For surf in the SE go to UNCW (even if you have to take a semester at cape fear cc, I know plenty of people that do it)...I'm in class at dubs now and it's sick (this winter has sucked, but the outer banks are close), If you go to Charleston it's kind of ***** to get to the beach and it's always a foot or two bigger in se nc, and another foot or two bigger on the banks...partied at flagler and surfed there and had a good time with fun waves...ps the ratio is 60/40 girl to guy at wilmington, can't wait for spring...good luck

 

I've been going to Charleston for two years now and have been satisfied with the surf. I would say if anything its generally bigger in SC than in southern NC. If you disagree then you have never heard of the washout which can be several feet bigger than any other break in SC on that day. And oh yeah...there is a 66/33 girl to guy ratio at charleston. Plus its warmer.

 

Sorry LI surfer but you are just flat out wrong thinking sc is generally bigger than se nc...And yes I've had many sessions at "the washout"/north folly beach, I know this because my best friend went to charleston and i go to wilmington...Been in both places plenty of times,surfed both, and generally its bigger here 3 outa 4 times on any given swell, though it might be cleaner down there since it faces more south (we have our places too that are several feet bigger than wb on certain days). You might have us with the female factor though, I love Charleston girls

 

West

Personally I don't believe that very good surf is found on the east coast. Go West. UC Santa Cruz, SD State, UC Santa Barbara, SF state, University of Hawaii or Pepperdine University if your a genius. It seems rational to stay in the east for family or convenience or whatever, but this is the perfect time to get the f--k out of here. Don't be afraid to go, it's mellower than you think. I've been to colleges on both coasts (Florida and NorCal) and I wish I'd gone west sooner. North to central Florida has more surf than the mid Atlantic region (OBX not included) but onshore conditions are the norm. The worst surf on the EC is from Long Beach NC through the Florida/ Georgia border (sorry South Carolina). If the surf is not important, than Charleston SC would probably be a good bet, but bring the longboard. UNCW would work, and the waves would be better, but not much. One last note, pick a school exclusively for surf (west coast) and after 2 years transfer to another school (after soiling your surf oats) to focus on your degree. It's easier to transfer to a good school than to apply out of high school. Good luck!

 

^^^^^this is great advice. i was thinking that id be locked into whatever school i went to after high school. the reality is that it is WAY easier to transfer than to get in to a school right out of h.s. so dont stress to much. pick a school near the coast, give it a shot, if it sucks, move on. im on year 4 of college and school #3 haha.

ps. if you have even 1% of an opportunity to go west, DO IT. even if you only make it to the rockys you can still shred haha. good luck

So i got straight up denied by uncw. bummed. hard as hell to get into a north Carolina school out of state. my friend got denied from unc with a 4.5 and a 1520sats.. so its either Flagler college or University of south Carolina. Surfing aside since i've obviously surf my head off down at flagler, what school do you think is the best. flagler seems to be too much of a 13th grade, i mean its small and super strict, and im trying to get the whole college experience. that being said I'd probably go to flagler for a year than transfer to uncw or college of Charleston like head high said. Or should i just go to university of south Carolina and be like 20,000 kids and 2 hrs from the beach. im in a pickle here....

 

Wow..4.5 GPA and a 1520 on the SAT's and still got denied. what extercurricular activities did he do i mean usually thats enough to get in. (or though) maybe disipline problems?

 

dude if you are interested in the cliche college experience (drinking, girls, all night mariokart sessions) id say go to usc. you are right on with the small, strict school thing. the smaller the school the tighter the security and the worse the consequences if you get caught. if you are willing to put in a year of slightly sketchy dorm living (and partying) and then move off campus (closer to the beach) for your sop****re year then go for flagler. just make sure to check their policies on wether they will make you live on campus after your 1st year or not beacuse some schools are really gay like that.

basically you are not going to lose either way, i mean you are going to be a freshman in college haha. i would go to flagler tho. looks like a sweet school in an awesome location. usc is a great school and would be really fun but when you get in years 2, 3, and 4, (and 5,6,7,8 like me haha) its all about the location to keep the fun levels up.

Yeah its crazy.he never got in trouble in his life, probably the most perfect person i know. was in national honors society, and hes actually never gotten a math problem wrong in his life on a standardized test, 800 on sats and 800 on sat 2's and 800 on psats if that counts.
Head high good advice, im leaning towards flagler as well, but the main thing thats buggin me - no girls in guys dorm, and vice versa. Its rediculous. But im feeling on going there for a year than heading on over to college of charleston. flagler is only 20k all together too, so its on the cheap side while usc is 31k.

 

What makes UNCW such a cool destination for kids from out of state? We don't want you here. Sorry to be so blunt, but 9 times out of 10, UNCW students from New Jersey or Maryland or wherever are not welcomed in the lineup here, unless they can handle themselves on a surfboard.
