i dunno if anyone else on here ever goes on the surfermag forum, but if not, here's an interesting board posted up by tim stamps of stamps surfboards: http://forum.surfermag.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=1760130&an=0&page=0#Post1760130 there are some fairly inane comments posted on the thread, but i think the thing looks really f**kin' fun for summer surf!! i own a longboard, but it doesn't really suit my style too much. not that i'd get rid of it. there's definitely a place for a longboard in any east coast quiver, but i get bored easily & like really off the wall equipment. i may be FORCED to get one if/when they become available! i'm thinking 5'4"x23x3.25"
Been following the design forum for years. It's kool that they can experiment a lot with shapes and fins and then test them out without having to wait too long for a rideable swell. Two of my boards are shaped by shapers who posted their boards in that forum (GGriffin & shawn Ambrose). My next board however will be shaped by a local shaper(Hague or Ashton) because they know exactly what our conditions and waves are like.
It looks pretty cool and woudl be fun for mid summer surf here in NJ . Little on the small side for my taste
That board shape is very close to my board of choice in the summer. You ride them small, I am 6 foot tall and ride a 5'5". Best shape I have ever ridden. They are fast and manueverable but take some getting used to, once you get them wired (not sure I have yet) they allow you to do things that you wouldn't think were possible just by looking at it.
zippy, i'd like to see some pics of your board, if you don't mind. also, how much do you weigh? you said you're 6ft tall & riding a 5'5"....curious, since i'm around 6ft as well, but am around 190lbs.

yea, i saw them at ab3 this fall in cedars...interesting looking boards, but from what i understand, more designed for boosting than carving & turning. punting isn't really my thing. & not to knock the shapes or the shaper, but the foils on the boards aren't appealing. i know that surfboards aren't a beauty contest, but the boards just look blobby, if you know what i mean. the foil on the stamps board is very clean & tapered. kudos to 195 for doing something different, tho. surfing would be a LOT more interesting if there were more shapers did their own thing & worried less about the "mainstream" (6'1"x18.25"x2.25" thrusters).
I'm just a hair under 6' and my weight is right around 195. Last Summer I was mostly riding a 5'6 X 21 ish X 3. So much fun to ride. It's like a skateboard. I throw it over the lip and hop, then just throw it around like I'm skating a pool. it connects sections like they never closed out, and I can catch almost anything. Pretty friggin nutso. very cool, mofo! there seem to be a lot of guys quietly doing their thing w/ the mini simmons shape...giving it their own tweak & seeing what happens, but it has stayed pretty much underground, despite a LOT of favorable feedback from riders. one of my biggest board-buying regrets is dragging my feet on a pristine 5'5"x23"x3" mini sim by ryan lovelace of point concept surfboards that i saw in the -erBB classified section. someone else snatched it up...such a bummer!! but i think i'm liking the idea of a quad or twinzer set up a lot more than the traditional twin keel.
Ahh Mofo that is my board . Absolutely love that shape, just about ready to shape a new one for the spring. You are right you can just throw them around, was on a wave this past summer and had no momentum at all, about waist high saw a little section to do a floater and hopped the board right on top of the lip from the bottom of the wave. Sailed right over the little section picked up some speed and rode an almost invisable wave all the way to the beach. Next one i make will be 4 oz cloth all the way around and no gloss coat just sealer. it's gonna be light!!! I might try it as a quad just to see if I like the keels or quads better, I'm really into keels though.
