Best Spot in Jersey

I grew up in Monmouth County with Sandy Hook (the cove) being my home break. The Cove is a great spot but not what it was back in the 70's and 80's. Monmouth county does get some surf, but during the summer the areas from LBI south get more surf (mostly wind swell) but at least it's not flat. NJ is expensive and crowded thats why I moved to Delmarva. The Maryland coast is just as good as any wave I have surfed in NJ, so it is weird to hear everyone here rave about what I complained about my whole life. Crowded lineups, traffic and the New York attitude (which I struggle with) is not all it's cracked up to be.

 

The Cove

We've surfed The Cove quite a few times, everytime we have been there, there has been a ridiculous right rip, and it seems like if it is not the perfect SE windswell you can get ankle biters in that spot. We have had some successful days there, but very unpredicatable.

 

Yeah the cove can be fickle to say the least. There were plenty of days when Sandy Hook as a whole was knee high at best and 15 minutes south in long Branch it was solid chest+. I surfed the hook from first jetty (covered by sand the last time I was there) all the way up to north beach during some crazy swells and was alone or with a friend or two. From what I hear the Hook is not even a shadow of it's former self after the army corp got a hold of it. Glad I surfed it for so many years when it was truly a great spot. Don;t think i have seen it good for at least 10 years .

 

Well i disagree with all of you i prefer West long Branch right next to seven presidents
ive been surfing there for the past 3 years and theres on spot were were the waves are amazingi n the summer and winter and nice normal people surf and bodyboard there
WEST LONG BRANCH!!!!!

 

Manasquan Inlet, Jenks, Sea Girt, Spring Lake and Belmar all have good jetties and depending on swell direction and the wind you can find a good spot near a jetty and surf alone.

I've never surfed north of Belmar. I've tried to check the Cove on a few swells but never saw more than shore break. Seems like there are alot more fickle beaches in northern Monmouth. I mostly surf Ocean County, BBI and LBI, and there is enough variety and consistency there to keep me from venturing up to Monmouth, but I'd definitely like to hit some spots up there... Atlantic and Cape May too. Variety is the spice of life... and surfing too! Don't think you could narrow it down to just one best spot in Jersey... Possibly could by region, but if I could I wouldn't name it here...

 

id have to say jenks, bayhead, lavallette and of course the pier
jenks - when its NE and macking = go there
bayhead - nothing like surfing with some 2 million dollar mansions in front of you
lavallette- trenton ave..you cant go wrong
pier- infamous spot and dont be afraid to try some fried oreos

 

i just started surfing last year... i had the pleasure of hittin waves in monmouth... this year i want to expand out further south... and to Long Island...

so glad i started surfing... now i have a board to hop on when the snow disappears

One of my favorite spots is one that I found on my own. I'm not going to say where it is because the fact that I found it with out asking or being told where it is, is what makes it one of my favorite spots.

So go out on all different swells and see what YOU can find.
