Heard some guys were doing tow ins off 8th street Tuesday morn, saw a few pics on malibus, any one know if their are any more pic's or vid from it? would be sick to see
Doesn't really look Towably large, but it does look like fun. I don't know too many people towing into Shorebreak... I see a lot of tow-ats like this, but they whip in for airs, not barrels. Interesting session.
looks fun! towing the little ones can actually be a lot of fun. i've never done it, but up in norcal where i used to live, a few guys would always tow this closed out shorey and boost huge airs. it's gotta be good for your surfing in that respect.
they weren't technically towing in, they were not using ropes. Riding side saddle then would jump off and into the waves. It was Raven and that crew from va. beach. they started doing it on 65th street as well. surfed right next to them, they were making every freakin section and getting so deep and making it. pretty cool to watch.
Yeah, I figured that is what they were doing because they had no straps on their boards and they aren't going all that fast, just fast enough. Looks fun. Ive done a rope and ski on a small day, but that was towing "at" the waves and doing little boosts. These guys were pulling into speed tubes it looks like. Pretty neat. VB to OC is a long drive!
It is hard to understand why they waste the extra time and money to tow into waist/chest/head high waves. Right down the beach rippers are dropping in late and still getting deeper....without any assistance. They called it step offs last time,...I guess it is something different to do. But Why you would drive to OCMD to tow in to lame sauce when OBX is so much closer?
Haha very true i mean OC can fire but that day hmm not to much worth the drive and bridge / tunnel toll... Who knows maybe they were enjoying spring break and figured they would give it a shot...
Definitely overhead where they were towing at 65th and were getting way deeper than you could just dropping in. Saw a dude get two barrels on one wave. It was definitely sick, and oc definitely jacks up enough to justify skiing onto to get in early.
" comment by ZANSURF, 2007-03-11 20:14:50 BULLS*** Dude the place is packed from waist high and up. Everyone thinks their the next slater or they are total kooks and have no idea what they are doing. The worst thing about this spot is the localism. The douchebags from GAY-coast surf shop think they run ****, but all they run is that tourist attraction they built last year. Im moving out west!!! " I stopped by and watched for a while that day........sure man,... whatever you say
All those "Douchebags" have always treated me with respect with no pressure to buy and willing to help whenever I needed it. Was there a problem with that shop when they were in the tiny building? They must be so deep in the hole from building the new shop and still they are not pushy. That is a great shop with nice people who own it and work it, I wish them success. BTW That day was not waist to chest, more like shoulder to head with bigger sets.
Hey that looks like me! Great shot, I would love to see a zoom in of that. Thankfully I didn't experience anything that bad on Tuesday .
hopefully everyone understands who said what......make sure you understand that I quoted someone else,,,namely ZANSURF.
Oh Sh*t sorry about that . I didn't realize that was quoting a previous posting on another thread, my bad. But wait it says he joined in 2008?
That quote was from a post of his on WANNASURF.com, in 2007 It pissed me off as well, I know most of the rippers at K-Coast, They are all solid surfers,.. consistent and balls to the wall in all conditions. The shop is always stocked well and has a great balance between the commercial and core surf products. The local surf shops employ REAL SURFERS, if you have every had issues with them, more then likely it was you, not them, in and out of the water.
