Need some help. I am 5'10 right now i have a 7'3 and i want to move up. i weight about 160. what thickness and width and leangth should i get.
You need to provide some more info. What shape is your 7'3"? What style of surfing have you been doing on it (going vertical, staying in the pocket)? Where do you surf? What do you want to do with your new board (bust airs, catch mush, carve)?
It depends on what you want in a board. IF you want a standard shortboard i suggest you go with 6'1 18 3/8 by 2 1/8 or 2 1/4. If you do what i did go with a fish so you can ease into smaller boards
What does "move up" mean anyway? i'm same size as you almost exactly..average ability sooo..if by move up you mean a shorter board...i like a 6'2" x 20" x 2 3/8" Mike Hague swallow tail ive been riding for a few years. If by move up you mean a longer board..i really like my 9'0" x 22" x 2 7/8" Jon Ashton longboard.
Go easy...he was just having fun. Don't take it so personally. So basically, you have a funshape and you're looking to go smaller. You should be looking at the type of board before you start looking at the size. The next transition towards the performance shortboard would be something like a Rocket Fish from Lost. A fish with the tail pulled in (or a wide-bodied swallow tail). Once you choose what model you're looking at, give them a call and see what size they suggest for your weight & skill level. This is where somebody pipes in and says "Go to your local shaper and let him design you a board."
