Right there, paddling out. I've been waiting for this day, and it finally reared it's head. Right there, I witnessed my first dumb dumb paddling out with no wetsuit, spring suit, or(and I thought this was pretty cocky) rashgaurd. He lasted 15 minutes I think. Then his buddy, it gets even better, decided he was man enough to out do his friend. He was a little smarter. He decided he'd defeat mother nature by putting on, what looked to be, sneakers. The only reason I know this is because I saw him lacing them up. And to top off the spectacle, he wore ONE paddle glove. Maybe he idiolizes michael jackson or something. Made my day.
haha i usually see that in late may but this early april i saw some little kids take a body board out and last about 2 minutes
yeah, i seen a couple of little kids in the water playing it in. That's understandable, they're kids and they're playing in the fun stuff. Going out past the break with the intention of surfing in this cold stuff is silly.
my friend went bodyboarding bareback and was out for like an hour and a half on monday. But then again he's the same person who paddled out in february with a springsuit, booties, and gloves!
Now that the water's solidly up into the 50's, I've shed the gloves and switched to the 3/2 on warm days. The weekend could be chilly, so maybe go back to the 4/3 one more time, if we do get that bump on Saturday... which I think is likely. Funny... I had a dream last night that I was surfing, but I couldn't get up to my feet. My wetsuit was like it was made of lead... so heavy and stiff I could barely move, so I didn't even get a single wave. All my surfing dreams are like that... I NEVER actually surf in them. F*#!ing torture.
All my surfing dreams are like that... I NEVER actually surf in them. F*#!ing torture.
Same here. I usually don't even make it into the water...
last month Surfed OC last month in this dry-rotted 3/2 without boots, gloves, or hood because i left it all in Virginia by accident. Lasted about 45 minutes on big single-fin until i fell off (no leash) and had to swim in. It was only like 50 ft, but TORTURE! I though I was gonna drown, it was outta control. I feel for those people on the Titanic now lol. Anyhow, last time I'll make that decision.
Same here. I usually don't even make it into the water...
i think the fartyhest i get is putting on a my suit before someone comes and does something that makes me unable to bodyboard
Well my surfing dreams are quite different. I'm really into lucid dreaming, which is when you are aware of the fact that you are dreaming, thus can do all sorts of wild crazy stuff, anything really. About a year ago I had a lucid dream and I decided I wanted to surf, and boom there I was. Perfect tropical setting and I could make any wave I wanted come at me. I was getting pitted all night long!!! When I woke up, I WAS PISSED!!! Yet stoaked...
We surfed OC inlet this afternoon fand there was a guy in the water the whole time trunking it with a rash guard. After 45 minutes i paddled over and asked him how the water felt and he just said the first 10 minutes sucked and then not bad. water felt to me like it was no warmer than 60 or even upper 50s.
Yeah I took out my new 3/2 Amp my wife got me for a early birthday gift. I just use that and boots and I was fine in OCNJ today I didnt even feel the wind they was whiping like a MOFO
Water was definitely colder today. At least up here... Knew I'd have to go with the 4/3 today because of the upwelling and wind, but hoped to not have to wear gloves. NOT! In fact, after a few on the head, I wanted a hood! Ha! One step forward, two steps back... I brought a pair of 3mm gloves down to the beach, just in case. Glad I did. Could have survived without them, but was much more comfortable with them. Even my feet were cold in 3mm boots today. Not numb cold, but I could definitely feel the cold through the boot. One guy i was out with made the mistake of not bringing gloves. He was the first to say, "lets pack it in." That was after MAYBE an hour. He found another ride home.
i had a dream where i went to the beach and it was good so i went to get my stuff and when i came back the beach was a bowling alley and my friends said to me it knocks down more pins.
isnt it someting like south swell brings colder water and north is warmer? can u tell by the swell direction becuase this knoledge would be nice to know.
moments like those are always really nice for comedy. i haven't come across it yet this year though. i myself am probably one of the first people to trunk it, and lose all the rubber every year. today i used a 3/2, boots, and no gloves. i lose the boots at about 60 degrees maybe 62 or so provided the air temperature is warm. the muscles in my toes get real stiff, and tend to get stiff, so my feet are usually cooler than anywhere else. i am usually trunking it at 65 especially in june which is when it actually gets to 65 most years, but i'm hoping by memorial day to lose the rubber this year. sometimes in october i gotta use a suit when the water is 68, but the air temperature is 58. thats understandable. i just got this 3/2 for christmas, and today was my third time in using it. a few weeks ago before all the flatness the water was like 48, and since then it's been warm, so the water has been warming up, but the waves haven't been around. now it's mid to upper 50s, and in a couple of weeks i will probably be in my shorts, so it sucks i won't be getting much use of it this spring, but i can't complain since the ocean is warming up. i was going in just my shorts in cape may, and southern jersey probably mid june last year, and wasn't able to just go in shorts up in monmouth county until probably around the 25th or so of june. aside from a week of it being in the 90s in april, and a week of 70s in april there really wasn't a spring last year. this is probably the warmest since 01. i think in 01 i was able to go in my shorts at manasquan inlet in mid may. there were better swells that spring too, because i was living in north jersey, and coming down every day after week to surf. it was great.
Wow. If you trunk it at 65 degrees, you are a better man than me. I can't trunk it until its like 71-72 degrees. And only comfortably if its 75+... I only wear trunks maybe one-2 months of the year. I always see guys wearing trunks in the spring/fall. Guys are doing that all over the place right now out here. Its NUTS to me. I know you all are cold man!!!! DAMN! I am a p***y when it comes to cold water, so I will give you that, but anyone who says 68-69 degree water isnt cold must have no nerves in their body or something.... I went back home to OC MD last year and was there about June 15th or so for a few days... I went out in my 3 mill, and the water temp supposedly was in the mid-high 60s, and i was FREEZING... I mean, freezing. Luckily I had my 4/3 also. I go out, put that bad boy on and as good. My feet did get cold after 30-45 minutes. Not bricks, but cold... Anyway, I know it must feel a little better if you are used to it... But when I was growing up around OC MD, I would last like 20 minutes in my trunks until it was like mid august... Then I was feeling good. Hot air, mid70s water... Thats whats up... I guess I must ask you, why do you shed the rubber so soon? I understand that a 5 mill and gloves and hoods and stuff is mad restrictive, but I would wear a 3mill and nothing else pretty much every day, even in summer. I mean, why not. It will keep you super comfortable and really really warm... I just hate being cold.. So I always ask my buddies why on earth they trunk it so early. I mean, we dont live in Hawaii... And they always say to me... Man, If I had a 3 mill on right now, I would be sweating... Meanwhile I feel the cold upwelling on my legs and I see them paddle in after 40 minutes.... I guess a lot of people just like to shed the rubber, I just think yall are nuts =)
