A month now, and the oil is still gushing. They've captured some of the oil with the mile-long tube--apparently they won't or can't say exactly how much--but oil is still leaking into the gulf. And the oil is starting to get picked up the loop current. Let's hope that the top-kill plan that they're going to try this weekend works.
At least it will be easier for the opponents of drilling off the east coast to state their case. I feel like any drilling off the coast of the U.S. is going to be very difficult now. Back on topic though- Yeah, screw bp. They are raking in money by the billion and cant cap some faulty well? Hopefully every cent they are neglecting to pay now, they will have to pay the victims of this in court. Are there any predictions of when the oil might make its way up here?
Too late - the damage is done. Even if they stopped it cold now we will be feeling the affects of this spill for decades. We are effectively ruining every aspect of what we love about this land we say we love with our ignorance and greed. Enjoy!
They could have permanently blown or clogged the well as soon as it happened, but the amount of coin they would have lost would have been far greater than what they perceive it will cost to clean up. BP doesn't care about the ecosystem when there are 2 billion barrels of black gold in that well. @ approx. $70/barrel that would gross them 1.4 trillion over the life of the well. At that level do you think BP gives a ratz a$$ about OUR beaches and sealife? Good luck trying to figure the math in your favor. btw, Exxon just settled their cases from the Valdez in '89 for billions less than speculated. Considering inflation over 21 years they came out paying pennies on the dollar for what was at that time our worst ecological disaster. You can't win with big oil. The only way to win is at the pump...stop pumping and they'll stop drilling. Good luck with that one, too. Two weeks is about right. They found "tarballs" on Oak Island and Key West, but they are saying it is not from the Gulf. I guess Key West and Oak Island normally have tarballs on their beaches that no one ever talks about until there is an oil spill? Dang - too much time on this site. I gotta get back to hitting refresh on the surf report and watching the stock market crash.
