Wait for it to show up on whiskey. I don't know a lot about FireWires but from what I hav heard is that they are very strong and they dint break too easily. The double stringer on the sides is legit and the shapes look pretty cool. I'm going to go look up firewires now lol. Just did a really quick search and saw that the volume of the quadfish looks pretty cool. With more volume it will b much easier to catch waves. The foil of the board is pretty flat and there is not much rocker which is also good for paddling.
The pros of Firewires are that they are virtually indestructible and do perform really well in good surf. I've been riding a Quadraflex for three years now and it's survived multiple trips and hurricane seasons with only one minor ding from reef. They paddle really well, explode out of turns, and feel really good in general. There's no slidey feeling like tuflite. The only cons to the Firewire design is that they are made with good surf in mind. I haven't surfed any of the high volume fish shapes or longboards but the high performance shortboards definitely are not made for garbage summer stuff. When it gets going a bit though they shine. With all that being said- I'm selling the Quadraflex for $350 or so for rent since I just picked up a rocket by ...lost. If anyone wants pics I got em.
"The only cons to the Firewire design is that they are made with good surf in mind. I feel like you can probably ride that in anything up to head high. and it probably rides great in waist to chest high surf.
Love the quadfish. Most fun board I've ridden in 20 years of surfing. From waist to head +... I'm 6-0, 175 lbs and I ride the 5-10 also.
yo ALIVE, how do you like that ...lost rocket? they look like a lot of fun and like a good shape for waist high surf and also whatd you pay for it?
i been surfin a merrick Flyer for 4 years and love it but i hate how delicatte al mericks are. you think it would be a good transition from the good feel of a al merrick flyer down to a firewire alternator.. is it smart for jersey or are these firewires to perfomance based for dirty jerzey
The rockets are insane. They generate tons of speed and are super responsive. Waist high surf has never been more fun. It handled bigger stuff no problem too. Mine ran me $600 and it was worth every penny.
I bought a rocket in early march and have been riding it in the obx since then. It is a badass board for waist to shoulder high waves. I was in VB one day and decided to see what deals were going on at shops around town. Normally I would never buy anything from 17th Street but the board was on sale for $455 and I couldn't pass it up. If you get one definitely go 4 to 6 inches shorter than you would any other short board.
