one thing I picked up reading this is how many people refer to healthy foods as gross or not as tatseful as eating processed foods most are familiar with. My finding is the more you eat something the more you will come to crave it and think of it as "yummy". If you eat junk all the time you will crave junk when you're hungry but if you start making healthier choices you will come to desire those foods all the time and the McRib will start to sound gross
tons of people have said it already, but instead of drinking soda or beer or whatever, drink water. there are a lot of calories that can be cut out of your diet (assuming you drink that stuff) by sticking to drinking water. Also just be aware of what you eat and drink, always look at the nutritional value.
Who hates America? I was just insinuating we have awful eating habits and health as a whole, which is a fact.
lose weight / get in shape If you live in the Ocean City area, you could check out this place. http://www.crossfitocmd.com/ I lost 21 pounds in 13 months. I am double your age, so I had about double to lose. The workouts are great and trainers are very good. Many hot women and some real good down to earth people. As far as surfing, it will really help with your endurance, paddling and overall strength. You never work the same muscles on a regular basis, so your body never gets use to the workout. They will even teach you how to eat right, if you so choose to.
...drugs.... jk. simple...burn more calories than you take in. eating right will result in less calories to burn, and thus help you lose weight faster. Keep in mind that not everything works for everyone.
then why do you still live here? Why be a hypocrite and stay and take advantage of what this country offers while you b!itch and whine about how bad that place is? Move to mexico or some other place and spare us.
limit yourself to 3 meals a day, eat whatever you want just not alot of it. and dont eat 3 hours before bedtime. Be somewhat active throughout yourday as well.
Eating healthy is not a requirement to loose weight (it helps). Remember this--What you eat is not as important as how much you eat. As long as you do not take in more calories than you burn you WILL loose weight. For me (-7lbs in the last 2 1/2 weeks) portion control is the name of the game not so much what I eat. Limit your portions and you will be well on your way to loosing the weight you want. It took about a week for my body to adjust to the lighter portions but now I am not fighting the hunger shortly after each meal. After you get your portions under control then you can start working on what you eat.
HAHA... a lot of you are so misinformed. What you eat is not as important as how much you eat? So as long as I eat a few potato chips instead of the whole bag, I'm good? When it comes down to it, what you eat and how much you eat of it will both play a major role.
Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a beggar and dinner like a poor man. Have small meals in between. 5 small meals is better for your metabolism than 3 big ones. Do crossfit, or just run and drink a gallon and a half to two gallons of water a day. You can lose ten pounds in a week easily. Some good cardio workouts that take less than 20 minutes: 10 Pushups 10 Situps 10 Tricep Pushups 10 Reverse Situps 10 Wide Grip Pushups Max Pullups. x10 Also, stay away from carbs at night.
You can eat whatever you want pretty much. Just not alot of it. Sure its better to have a healthier alternative. But its still alot better to eat less of what you want.
i did p90x and enjoyed it but took too much time and though i got in great general shape it was weak on the cardio and heavy on the strength training which doesnt help you in the water. i am now doing insanity, by the same company beachbody.com, and it is much better for a surfer. tons of cardio with interval training and plyometrics, all of which are applicable to surfing. i highly recommend it. you will lean down and get fit. the workouts are also much shorter then p90x so its easier to incorporate it into your day. after the workouts i use a vasa trainer which is the best equipment that i have found to simulate paddling so i dont lose my paddling endurance while its flat. eating foods with more whole grains will help too - keeps your blood sugar at a constant level throughout the day instead a quick peak and trough that will make you want to reach for a candy bar when your blood sugars low. try whole grain pasta and bread. also, a great cheap way to trim down is w a jump rope. hope this helps.
It's unbelievable how many misinformed people have commented on this thread. Here's some quick knowledge: Aerobic exercise builds little (if any) muscle--and muscle is the key component of a speedy metabolism. Muscle eats fat; again, add 1 pound of muscle, and your body burns up to an additional 50 calories a day just to keep that muscle alive. Add 6 pounds of muscle, and suddenly you're burning up to 300 more calories each day just by sitting still. Here's the problem with low intensity aerobic exercise. Just like a car can't run without gas or a kite can't fly without wind, a body can't function without food. It's the fuel that helps you run, lift, and surf. Generally, during exercise, your body calls upon Glycogen (the stored form of carbohydrate in muscles and the liver), fat, and in some cases protein. When you're doing low-intensity aerobic exercise like jogging, your body primarily uses fat and glycogen for fuel. When it continues at longer periods (20 minutes or more), your body drifts into depletion: You exhaust your first-tier energy sources (your glycogen stores), and your body hunts around for the easiest source of energy it can find--protein. Your body actually begins to eat up muscle tissue, converting the protein stored in your muscles into energy you need to keep going. Once your body reaches that plateau, it burns up 5 to 6 grams of protein for every 30 minutes of ongoing exercise. By burning protein, you're not only missing an opportunity to burn fat but also losing all-important and powerful muscle. So aerobic exercise actually decreases muscle mass. Decreased muscle mass ultimately slows down your metabolism, making it easier for you to gain weight. When early studies compared cardio exercise to weight training, researches learned that those who engaged in aerobic activities burned more calories during exercise than those who tossed around iron. You'd assume, then, that aerobic exercise was the way to go. But that's not the end of the story. It turns out that while lifters didn't burn as many calories DURING their workouts as the folks who ran or biked, they burned far more calories over the course of the next several hours. This phenomenon is known as the afterburn--the additional calories your body burns off in the hours and days after a workout. Aerobic exercise essentially burns only at the time of the workout. Strength training burns calories long after you leave the gym, while you sleep, and maybe all the way until your next workout. Aerobic exercise burns calories, it helps control stress, and it improves your cardiovascular fitness. It also helps lower blood pressure and improve your cholesterol profile. If your choice is aerobic exercise or no exercise, for god sakes get out there and run. But when it comes to long-term weight management, I'll take gym iron over road rubber any day. And please...Eat healthy. Don't listen to all this nonsense about decreasing calorie intake and only eating small portions a day. Stick to the power foods like lean meats, natural peanut butter, leafy greens and black beans, fat-free milk and yogurt, almonds and nuts, and whole grain wheat breads. This is what your body NEEDS. You need to forget what your mind tells you that you WANT to eat and start learning about what your body actually NEEDS. Eating 3 meals a day with 2 snacks in between will keep you more full for a longer amount of time. Keep to at most 3 drinks a week and make sure to take a day for yourself to eat whatever you want. Think of it as a reward. This was a long post but I feel like it needed to be said. Doesn't cover everything I would like to cover but it's a start.
If you're a reader and want to get some great info on losing weight, try this book, it helped me a lot. I eat all I want and never worry about gaining a pound. I actually lose weight eating whatever I want. But I have to warn you, from what I see, there are quite a few guys on this msg board that don't have a gag reflex anymore, so it may prove difficult for some. Here's the book title" "Bulimia for Dummie's"
