    Hey people
I'm looking for chill fellow kooks to go out with in the nyc area (far rockaway). i don't know anybody really who surfs up here. and its been hard for me to find a group and people within reach. so i would like to meet up with people and have a good time and learn some more while i'm at it. and i'm an early bird so i don't mind getting up way early to hit the waves. i'm a very chill laid back person, who wants to learn more and have fun so if you're interested drop me a line.

    Sure, Rockaway's a blast!

Rockaway is a great spot, once you know the process of getting there. Here's the best way coming from Manhattan. I've done this trip carrying a 7' 6" board:

    1) Hop on the A train to Rockaway Blvd (about 45 minutes). Get off the rear of the subway platform to street level, walk towards the bus shelter in front of the PC Richard & Son store.

    2) Jump on the southbound Q-53 bus to Rockaway Beach (about 25 minutes). Get out at the first stop in Rockaway.

    3) If you don't immediately see the boardwalk, ask someone to point you to the beach. It's just a few blocks walking to the 90th Street surf break which is the spot.

My work partner, little sister and I go most mornings from 8-10am on days SwellInfo says it's decent. If you'd like to meet up with us en-route or at the beach, email me at tom@tompalmerprojects.com. We're not psychokillers, hope you're not one either.

I am coming from out east on the island, how packed does it get durring the summers? I usually have my g/f and her son, they usually play on the beach while I surf. I would assume as long as you get down there early enough you can find a spot right?

why the hell would you come from out east to go to rockaway? water is cleaner out east & lots more beach to spread out on. actually, since i don't surf rock if the water is above 40, bring all of your friends & leave long beach & points east. the less the merrier.

What's the advantage of getting off and taking a bus versus taking the A all the way to Broad Channel and switching to the S shuttle? Just curious, I normally drive it, but thought you could take the train the whole way.

To the point of this thread - the site dawnpatroler, which I've mentioned before (and advertises on this site), has a network service that helps connect city surfers. You fill out a profile, to help vet the psycho killer thing Tom mentions (and to help connect skill levels, etc), and then post or respond to sessions via the site. It's new.
