im going to be a senior next year and im starting to look at colleges, what are some decent colleges in florida near some good waves?
search the other threads theres a million on this topic. I know some guys who go to flagler and they love it.
I took surfing 101 at hollister beach and learned to do a pop up! now I am getting barrels everytime I surf even if it's ankle high!
judging by my reasearch, and from what i have heard from residents i know it seems the best surf in florida is anywhere from jacksonville down to jupiter inlet. i have been told it's not all that great in the fort lauderdale/greater miami region but it has it's moments. i used to go to ormond beach during summers, and vacations as a teenager. i hadn't started surfing yet though, but sunglow pier in daytona was a decent spot. had a good surf scene back in the 80s when i was spending time there, but i haven't spent more than a day there since 1988. i have heard sebastian inlet was a good spot, and cocoa beach, but i have never surfed them, and haven't been to those areas since 87.
schools with surf near by are not limited to FL, they are everywhere in nearly every state on the coast. all you need to do is figure out your major, how far from home, climate, and how much money you want to spend. do some reasearch online instead of being so lazy by asking people on here for opinions. it is your personal preference, not everyone elses. you will learn to grow a pair and be a professional reasearcher in college fyi
Here you go, I did the search for you. Here are two big threads about the subject: Surfing Colleges Schools near good surf
if you plan to go to florida, don't go any further south than boca raton. There is very, very little surf in lauderdale and miami. Lynn and FAU are in boca
uncw. college of charleston, flagler, u of rhode island, florida atlantic, salisburry...i guess. all on the east coast. there all basically on the beach
im applying to flagler, uncw, coastal carolina, and salisbury all cus of being on the coast, i wouldn't be able to be away from the ocean for a long time, also cal state channel islands is newer and only about 15 minutes from malibu
thats what i thought. was going to flagler until but parents pulled a fast one on me and im going to be in the middle of PA...bummer. ill be there for a semester than im peacing. UNCW is very hard to get into out of state; you need like a 1250 and 3.7-thats about the average. you'll get into flagler...I visited, it was awesome but main reasons i didnt go there was because its superr small and extremely strict(no girls in dorms at all times) and there real gay on drinking.. don't go to coastal, just don't its beautiful but you'll get into all the wrong things down there. try charleston, its a little easier to get into than uncw and it has an awesome town but kinda beat waves- but still waves. good school too.
Actually i have like a 3.8 gpa, and a 1200 so i think i still could have a decent shot of getting in at uncw , and coastal is like a last choice i visited there, i liked the school but i didn't really like myrtle beach, and flagler is strict but i want to go to a smaller school and its a perfect place to be a history major, but johnny don't get too down on it at least you can snowboard whenever you want if your in the middle of Pa
I got into UNCW but got rejected from Flagler and Charleston... Go figure. Wouldn't have chosen any other school looking back. UNCW is awesome. If you get in, definitely go. Pricey though.
when i looked at uncw, it was very nice, i liked it more than i thought i would cus its bigger and im a small town type of person, lots of super hot girls i noticed, but how does wrightsville rate in the wave scene, it was flat when i was there
Wrightsville gets pretty good. The surf scene down there is much bigger than it is around here in Monmouth County. I lived two houses down from Ben Bourgeouis (sp?). It really is a good surf spot no Jettys though, so it doesn't hold that good on big swells. Super warm late into the fall and warms up quick early in the spring. In the summer, when Wrightsville is packed, you paddle right over to Mace.
you got denied by flagler and got in to uncw? hot damn. i think im transferring there next year, we shall see.
