do i need a suit for my sesh tomorrow? i havent been out in two days and i hear its gotten a little chilly.. just how cold is it?
I would recommend wearing a suit tomorrow. If you would like, I am selling a medium tall 5/4 for 150 perfect condition..... In all seriousness,i would recommend a 2 mill spring suit
92 degrees out tomo for most of nj. scattered tstorms. i wouldnt worry too much about water temp, so i agree with above post. 2 mil suit if you hate being chilly or just wanna precaution since the south winds may continue upwelling. or was it north winds. whatever
KB4L recommends a 5/4 with boots and gloves. You should be able to get away without a hood, but a hat for uv protection and some sea specs should be in tow. Make sure to put everything on at home before you go and pee in your suit on the way to go shred.

The water today at my local was 62. Barebacked it for an hour, but my hands and feet where aching. Good thing the air was hot.
Yeah, the water temp reading I am seeing every day are all over the place. All of the sites have very similar readings now, where a few weeks ago, there were 6-7 degree differences between the readings. Now all of the daily water temps in Jerz and MD are reading 71+. Not sure how accurate that is, but I know at my beach, I always go off the morning lifeguard readings that they post at the beach. I dont think those figures every make it online, but they are always really accurate. More so than surfline or anywhere else. Do any Jersey surf shops take real time daily water temp readings and post them online? Malibus used to do it in OC.
yeah i just got in from surfing.. it was chilly, definately a day to bust out the 3/2 especially if youre a skin-and-bones type kid like me.
so, why are all buoys reading the same temps, if its really 15 degrees colder? Probably because there close to the gulf stream, but still, dont you think they would change even a little bit?

Some guys on here have explanied the buoy thing because the surface temp etc can maintain a warmer water temp because they are actually far off shore. I dunno.... All I am saying is that the readings are all coming from remote sources and stuff. Everyone in here is agreeing that it was low 60s at least. I have had similar issues with water temp readings. Every summer i go home, its mid july and it says its 70 degree water, yet when I do a dawn patrol, it is like 59 degrees max. I dont know. I have had some pretty warm water days in the past few years, but it fluxuates. big time. I mean, unless its like 85-90 degrees outside without a cloud in the sky, I will always rock a 3 mil or something. A lot of guys complain about rubber, but a good wetsuit really isnt that resrtictive. Just bring a suit and wear it. Its better to be warm and comortable, than chilly during a session. Even if the water really was clocking in at 70 degrees all day, that is still not THAT warm. Many would argue that a wetsuit is a good call even up to 70. Cause if the surf isnt pumping and consistent, i almost always have rubber on. Floating around in 60 some degree water waiting for the next set is cold enough for me. I shed my westuit like 10-20 days all year, on either coast. Unless I am going down south of Hatterras. the water is just not that warm on either coast. Even in summer most of the time.
bring a top or a spring suit, enough said. the upwelling has made it pretty chilly but today when I was guarding it was colder in the afternoon than the am. the air temp will help a ton though and it might not be as cold today.
