well, my 5'9 Al Merrick is getting a little too small for me, and seems to bog alot. I weigh about 120 lbs, and am 5'8. I surf smaller, mushier waves, with the occasional 4-5 foot swell.

Im looking to buy a shortboard that performs well in smaller surf, but can also handle bigger swells for the fall/winter season. The Al Merrick Whip seems like it would fit my taste, but seems a little bit too pricy, and I dont know what size would be ideal. Can anyone help decide on the dimensions my board should be, and a good model I should look at?

    go shorter/fatter/thicker...

don't go too big! i'm 5'11"/175lbs and i surf 5'4"X19.5X2.5...shorter and fatter iz thu trend theeze dayz, az peeple r realizin' that we're not surfin' purfect barrellz everyday...

The Whip's 2 high-purformance/narrow for around here. i'd go with thu dumpster diver fer sur!

im 5'8" 140lbs and have a 5'9" Merrick Flyer thats a lot of fun. it works well in the small mushy stuff and bigger days like we had today, good all around board for sure. im always on either that or my 6'x19 1/4 Blair swallowtail thats got a little more volume to get into waves earlier but the two seem to work well in similar conditions. id definitely check out the dumpster diver though it looks sick!
