im looking for a new board. I'm 5'9" 145 lbs and im like a beginner/intermediate level. Im riding a 6'0" x 195/8" x 29x16" RNF Lost. I want a board good for the summer (easy to paddle, floats well, and can handle bad summer surf). I was also thinking about a quad set-up. What are your suggestions?
sounds like your current board should work well. it's a tad long for your height but RNFs are good summer small wave boards.
i agree w/ pumpmaster. the RNF is a great summer board...just get one a bit smaller. 5'8"-5'10" or so should do the trick. as for quads, i've recently had the revelation that i hate them. my advice, if you really want to try a quad, would be to seek out an RNF in that size range that comes w/ 5 plugs, so you can ride as a tri or a quad. then you can decide which you prefer & you're not caught out w/ a board you hate if you don't like it as a quad.
IMHO a good rule of thumb for a Fish design is that it should not be taller than you. By the way, what don't you like about the board you have? Or, what isn't it doing for you?
people are way into the fishes, but not me. i think it rides too much like a skateboard. i'd stick with a standard shortboard in the range: 6'0, 18-18.25, 2.25 range... maybe a little thicker if you plan on riding it in the winter
YOur current board YOur current board is spot on for you. I am rougly the same size and I just ordered a 5'-5 RNF. SO a 6' fish should take care of you just fine. You should be having no porblem getting into waves on that thing. I guess i would need to knw why you are looking for a new board before recommening one and your surfing abilities, sounds like your a beginner or at the early stages of your surf progression.
