hello my surfing brotheren My very talented father has been shaping my boards for years but refuses to glass because his garage floor is too pretty. Iv been paying like $180 -220 for a glass job recently and i feel like its a little steep. Anyone want to do it for less? Know of anyone who will? Also iv been working with an artist. Id like to be able to pause production before the clearcoat for my guy to paint it up. He could do yours too for a hundo, pretty killer art too. his website is pandiondesign.com ps located in VB
Just so you know what the going rates are today... those prices are what you should expect to pay. Major glass shops charge between $170-$190 for a clear shortboard, sanded finish, and many do not include fins for that price. You're gonna get what you pay for, that's for sure.
ok right on. Thanks for the insight guys. A good glass job is totally make or break, i absolutely wasted one a few years back.
Glass Love Honestly, the prices you are paying represent the market rate. Glassers are a finicky bunch. It's hard, filthy and toxic work. You're lucky you got a call back at all. Most pro glassers don't want to deal with indie shapers. If they do they hold onto your board for months. When I started shaping my own boards I did my own glassing. Still do. The start up costs are kinda high but you get it back over time. Plus you control everything, including artwork timing, etc. It may not be perfect the first time around but it isn't rocket science.
