Hi New here. Can anyone point me in the direction of good places around SoCal to purchase my first surfboard? Does anyone have any tips/tricks that they can share when it comes to buying one? Here's some background for any tips that might be applicable: I've been surfing for two years. I am 5'3" and a little over 100 pounds so I'm looking for a small, wide one - preferably under 6'. Multiple fins and a leash are a must. Definitely used since this will be a practice board that is bound to get beat up. I've been surfing on long foam boards to date but am ready to move up in the world ;-) Thanks for your help
if you're in the neighborhood...... communities like huntington beach et al have loads of garage sales....great places to find that board that is being replaced with newer or bigger or is simply being sold to make rent or buy some kind nugs. friday through sunday, drive around...you get to see it and negotiate,,,,, happy hunting
it's best to drive around to different surf shops (i recommend LA or OC beach cities) to look for boards they are clearing out... you may be able to find an untouched stick for around $100. one time i was at my friend's in venice and saw a "sale! clearance!" sign at this hole in the wall in marina del rey and sure enough they had a few quality sticks for between $80-$150. a lot of times in OC you'll be able to find old boards in decent shape left out in the alleys next to dumpsters. try craigslist too sometimes you may be able to find a deal there. one thing is for sure though if you have been riding fun boards, then try a fish/fishcuit/biscuit as your next ride. something with a wider nose and thicker core. going directly to a ripstick can be discouraging if you've only slid into waves with a log or foam. good luck
good advice right there^^^^ Look around, I found a 6'5 Flyer for $100 bucks in good condition on Craigslist. The fishcuit might be my favorite board (currently), but they will be pretty pricey as they are still pretty new.
Well depends where you live. There are stores in Ventura and santa barbra. I would for sure talk to the people at the shop and tell them what you want. They will help you find one.
I'm selling a board Hi, I just posted an add today about the board I am selling. It may be more board than you are looking for right now but please check my add out and let me know. It is the add for the Channel Islands the "STRANGE" longboard like new. Best of luck in your search!!!
